But there is a silver lining.
If someone had said to that our defense would not give up a single offensive touchdown to Clemson, I would have laughed at them. We all would have laughed at them, but here we sit with a defense that seems to be growing up and did a hell of a lot of growing yesterday. It's easy to focus on the negative from yesterday and rightly so. Yesterday shouldn't have happened and the way our offense played was absolutely abysmal and the way our players were coached was even worse. But the defense was solid. Every Clemson person I talked to at the game yesterday said the same thing. We didn't have a very good offense but "y'all's defense is solid." And its true. What we thought would be the weaker part of our team has proven to step up. Of course, it is still very early in the season (everyone calling for Tuggle's head now should remember that we were all in the same place with Chris Crane last year with the same record, 2-1) and there is still a lot that can happen. But if this defense keeps improving, the rest of the season may not be as dire as it looks right now. Yesterday sucked, but there seems to be a defense growing up right in front of us and as disappointed by the offensive play as we are, we should also be as excited about the defensive play. Just remember that our defense did not let up a single offensive touchdown to an offense that many said we wouldn't be able to keep up with.
