If we dont sign "crappy freshman" then we wont ever have a recruiting class. This is BC not Duke. Lets wait until 22 and we will get 4 and 5* players all over the place. 22 kids are breaking down the doors to come here.

This is a recipe for terrible.

Agreed the above is a terrible idea. By all accounts Thompson who was recruited by JC is still coming next year.

The ‘21 recruits could pan out, but had 0 interest from peer schools and we don’t need more Avery Wilson/Gabe Moton’s

From the time of Skinner, kids get counselled out of the program all the time. The transfer portal has been used by pretty much all those unproductive examples. I don't think there is much of a chance that either of these players will contribute (though I'm a little more hopeful about the PF than the G). But, if they are Wilson/Moton, they'll transfer just like Wilson/Moton. If nothing else, they offer bodies to run live scrimmages (which we were getting close to tapping into the New Plex All-Stars).

While I'm far from joining Electronic Avenue, we should acknowledge that, if the hire miraculously turns out to be a homerun, it will likely be because the recruits Eddy gets are overlooked by other programs. Perhaps, it is because he (and his staff) have a better eye for talent... or perhaps the type of players who buy-into his defense-centric system aren't a priority for today's shoot-first-ask-questions-later NBA (and pseudo-NBA known as college basketball). Skinner's best players were kids who did not garner comparable high major attention. Eddy's path (at least initially) will likely be similar.

Mike Sagay is on his fourth team now, the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers, yet is somehow still a junior.

why - have they already announced another coaching change? the thread that let me know if we hired a new coach today seems to have dried up so if we have announced a new coach for 22, could you let me know where i can read about it?

This was called sarcasm. Because kids are not breaking down the doors

There's a success story! I just Googled it and confirm that UNIVERSITY OF ANTELOPE VALLEY is a real school, but for profit meaning he is not on scholarship. How did he even find this place?
It always amazes me how many terrible players transfer out.

Of all the dart throws that didn’t work out, he at least had the requisite athleticism and looked the part. He just looked completely lost on a basketball court.

twballgame9 {l Wrote}:He can bring in CAA players to fill out the roster if they aren't going to be here four years from now. Roster flexibility is more valuable to a new coach on a rebuild than the stupid concept of roster balance.

Roster balance is not a stupid concept at all but a very necessary part of recruiting. If we only had Thompson coming in as a freshman, JVB and Langford as sophmores and then older Langford as a Junior what would happen when all these grad transfers left? We would have to have a huge freshman class (which certainly would have shitty recruits, because we are BC) or again with the grad transfers. So fast forward another year and we have 7 sophmores who mostly cant play, the other 4 upper classman previously mentioned and no real roster flexibility.

These kids are worth a shot at least. Looks like the guard grew 3-4 inches from year and the other kid is raw but has some talent and athleticism.

Roster balance for the sake of roster balance is moronic. Play kids from the stands over kids on scholarship that play like they came out of the stands.

If it isn't going to be better, hire a better coach. Because signing a bunch of non ACC level players to keep the roster balance and to make sure you have bodies for the next 4 years is dumb. Much rather see short term solutions until he ramps up recruiting.

If you don't think a coach is going to recruit better with full year and full recruiting cycle than he would be desperately chucking scholarships around in late March after just getting hired, then you think your coach is a shitty recruiter and you dont hire him. I just assume he will identify better players recruiting for BC for a year than he would picking guys from his C of C centric recruiting over the course of two weeks. If thats wrong, don't bother with basketball anymore.

Hopefully everybody is a diamond in the rough.

i'll say it differently that if eddy grant isn't the recruiting expert, don't recruit until you hire a recruiting expert. it feels to me his time would be better spent rocking down to the electric avenue of recruiting assistant coaches than chucking hail marys to the caa level players his 4th place finish at the last joint got him access to.

this program has seen a lot of dead weight on it's scholarship listing since beeker rolled up in dr honeydew's sidecar. it does no one any good to have that dead weight blocking spots for realistic players that could last for longer than the delicate egos of the kids that think they can play at this level but find out quickly they can't.

that said, i'm just pretty much here for the drama between posters. i don't give a cinnamon toast fuck about this program or it's future because it's clear they don't either. the next time i watch a bc basketball game it will be an accident
now in the street there is violence
and, and a lots of work to be done
no place to hang out our washing
and, and i can't blame all on the sun
good god we gonna rock down to electric avenue
and then we'll take it higher

So your solution this year is another year of picking up the Scott's, Karnik's and Adams of the world. I would rather he pick up these 2 developmental players. The big guy looks like he has a shot to develop and the other kid grew like 4 inches in a year. I would rather these 2 guys over 2 grads that will average 6 and 4

I'd rather not be saddled with 4 year developmental players in a rushed recruiting cycle. Period. At least take some time to look at ACC level recruits before falling back like this and locking up 2 scholarships.

That said, I don't care enough anymore about BC hoop to argue much longer. Mostly because of signings like these and the predictable results. Any hope that something changed was deflated.

tre said it best. If Grant can't recruit ACC level talent (and so far this year, it appears he can't) then hire someone that can. Or if its just too late in the cycle for anyone to recruit them (because its almost April) then just fill the roster spots with college basketball players that he knows CAN play but are graduate students who lost their starting spot to a blue chip, superstar, incoming freshman.

Roster balance is the last thing we should be concerned about with this program. We are talking about a program that hasn't sniffed March Madness in over a decade. What is the goal here? Do you want to spend three or four years trying to develop players that no one else wanted and hope that maybe there is a diamond that no one saw, or would you rather take players that we all know can play (because they did) but they lost their spot to a superstar incoming freshman? Take door number two and its possible BC can go 18-12 next year and (if they get lucky in the ACC tournament) maybe play in mid March.

Even Addazio was smart enough to grab Tyler Murphy for just one year. Made all the difference (that may have been the best team he ever coached.)

I’d way rather use the Karnik and Scott route unless the ‘21 kids you’re recruiting are legit ACC players. The lack of even interest from other P5 schools tells a lot.

We already have a few players who this isn’t the right level of basketball

the only way bc wins 18 games next year is if they play 60 in total.

edit - also focus on trying to get kelly out of the transfer portal. he's a fun polarization that i'd like to see bantered about on this cesspoll for another year and i love that he looks like a schlub that just woke up when the starting horn sounded

edit - also focus on trying to get kelly out of the transfer portal. he's a fun polarization that i'd like to see bantered about on this cesspoll for another year and i love that he looks like a schlub that just woke up when the starting horn sounded

Again, why is our 22 class going to be better?

So your solution this year is another year of picking up the Scott's, Karnik's and Adams of the world. I would rather he pick up these 2 developmental players. The big guy looks like he has a shot to develop and the other kid grew like 4 inches in a year. I would rather these 2 guys over 2 grads that will average 6 and 4

tre said it best.

18-12 with all these magical 5* recruits who lost starting jobs at Duke and Kansas. You are delusional.

Maybe.

I don't have much hope for Grant. I don't have much hope for this program. I have lost faith. And they can't win 18 (and maybe can't win 8.) But I still want them to win.

I want what you want. I don't care how they win. I just think for this team to have any chance to win some games, that is likely only happening with 1-and-done grad transfers, and not frosh.

Part of my point is its only 3 freshman. We have plenty of open spots for transfers. 3 freshman plus Adams, Karnik, the Langfords, the transfer guard, Williams, JVB and Scott is 11. And I have no idea if Karnik, Adams or Scott is returning. Could have like 5 transfer spots still.

They take up three spots for 4 years. Its not only three freshmen, it is 12 years of scholarships.
