I don’t think the Zay one was on him. First one was him expecting Hunter to win a 50/50 ball. Thought his third was the worst of all of them. Not just for the timing of it (late in the game) but the fact he stared down Hunter Long and then threw a ball that was not even close.
But, with the way the defense was not tackling, it probably would not have mattered anyway. We made a goofy look8ng white dude look like Tim Tebow.

ok.
Completed 70% of his passes. Not saying he played great; I just thinking you are shitting on him unnecessarily. He played good enough for BC to win this game had the defense played ok. And, take away two of those picks, his performance would be a forever remembered single game performance to overcome that shitty effort on the other side of the ball.
HJS {l Wrote}:twballgame9 {l Wrote}:Even the completed passes were underthrown. Several times WRs came back to the ball and bailed him out on this absolutely terrible HS secondary. Just doesn't have the arm.
Grosel was late with the ball. Stared down his receivers. Underthrew almost every pass. He still goes down as the best single game passer in history.

Eaglekeeper {l Wrote}:Daz ran the defense into the ground after Don Brown left. It’s a fucking crime the way he left this defense! All in all we have a terrific HC in Hafley and a much improved offense. We all know that Hafley will build a top 5 defense by year 3. The program is on the way up, mission accomplished for year 1!
Go Eagles!
Dick Rosenthal {l Wrote}:I hope today puts to rest the notion that Grosel is anything other than an adequate back up or that he is anything close to being in the same league as Jurk. If Jurk had been available we’d have won.
Dick Rosenthal {l Wrote}:During Grosel’s “record setting performance”, he had a QBR that is 5 points below Jurk’s avg—15 points behind Jurk’s better performances and on par with Jurk’s two worst games one of which was played with a dislocated shoulder. His “record setting performance” was entirely a product of UVA understanding that a soft cushion would prevent any chance of big chunk plays because of Grosel’s complete lack of arm strength and that a Grosel-lead offense would self destruct if forced to sustain multi-play drives, which, of course it did.
Our O-line is abysmal. The one aspect of the team that underperformed expectations, and given the fact that it was actually supposed to be a strength made it horrifying failure. We are going to need to make a change there from a coaching perspective—it looks like a technique/scheme issue as opposed to a talent issue and will only be fixed by better coaching/teaching as opposed to upgrading talent (which realistically, is only going to happen marginally).
As for the defense, it is horrible but that is 100% a lack of talent. If we are honest, I think this D turned out much better than we had reason to expect and that is entirely the product of coaching up what we had and plugging in a couple of upgrade transfers that we only got because of the respect for Hafley in the industry. We will get better as we upgrade talent. There is no reason to worry about it in the long term.
In the end, 6-5 seems disappointing, but it was 6-5 without the normal three cupcakes designed to generate 7 wins despite a sub-500 ACC record. There were no WTF losses and honestly, VA Tech was the only mildly head scratching performance—UVA would have been a head scratcher if we hadn’t been starting a low-MAC level talent at QB because of Dazoo’s horrific recruiting.

I’m largely here.
However, the D and the OLine run blocking yesterday were the worst of the year. I don’t think Jurk turns that game into a win... or would Matty Ice, Foley, BSP, any Hass, Rettig, Towles, Tyler Murphy or PaulPete. The D got 3 stops in the first 10 series. It let up nearly 600 yards to a team who spent about 20 mins of game time focused primarily on running the clock while nursing their 3TD lead. That game was not winnable yesterday so long as we had to give UVA’s offense the ball back after a score. Pretending otherwise sweeps that joke of a defensive effort under the rug. It is a talent issue. Fine. And there were injuries... but those were limited to the secondary. Our DL and LB group were healthy and shitty.
And let’s not sweep the complete lack of a run game under the rug. Teddy spent 10 games telling this board that Bailey wasn’t good and that we should be exclusive with modern backs like Levy and Garwo. We’ve been fed similar nonsense from Hafley about how the OL is gelling and the run game is better every week. How these guys just needed more time playing together due to the lack of spring ball. Well... Garwo and Levy shit the bed yesterday and the OL from a run-blocking perspective could not have been worse. On a team rattled with injuries, that OL has been consistently healthy, experienced and fucking terrible. Hafley starts getting the jorts treatment if that shitty Yukon player isn’t replaced this offseason.
Grosel’s performance was good enough to win if the rest of the team showed up. He was helped mightily by the receivers, decent pass protection and a terrible UVA secondary. His first INT was beyond dumb and was benchable. I give him credit for staying strong in the pocket and giving his players chances to make a play on the ball. It was as good of a performance anyone could expect from the known quantity. But, once that game was over midway through the 3rd, we should’ve moved on to see if the third stringers had anything to offer the program.
hansen {l Wrote}:I still maintain the LB room is the worst part of the defense. DL room occasionally shows promise (Bequette, shitta, Horsley, Maximillian, chibuezze, Rayam on short yard situations) and the secondary (when healthy*) is good enough for us to beat all but the 2-3 elite teams in the ACC (counting the children of the corn in that group). The LBs are consistently bad. They take terrible angles and miss so many tackles that it’s impossible for the defense to ever be good at stopping the run. And if you can’t stop the run, you can’t win most games.
* lack of depth has killed this group... when Deon Jones went down, it was a clusterfuck at safety with the backups until they decided to move guys around to compensate.

No illusions about what Grosel is, but without his surprising output BC would have suffered the worst bludgeoning of the season against VIRGINIA!! So say what you will.
