Going to be aired on the YouTube machine at 7pm tonight.

Who's down for a David Gordon knuckleball splitting the uprights?

I didn't think I could embed it because it was "live"... I'd like to rip it from the web before ND fans report it or something and it gets taken down lol

Good Stuff. That field goal was kicked straight at us in the Endzone. Storming the field after and jumping around with the team was freaking awesome. Man, BC and College Football in general was awesome to watch back then. But alas, 1 week later it was a complete 180.

Fair enough. I used the kick because the class of '98 were seniors in high school when the kick went through. There were probably a few of us who picked BC based on the excitement of that game.

fair enough. i won't accept the kick as the line of demarcation because i was still on campus for another 6 months after that

mod fence is obviously the delimiter. up until that point, there was riots in the mods (full of bewbs, beers, and bonfires) every year when the hockey team ended their season.
good times.

Watched the first half last night. Never knew that Lee Becton (122 yards the week before against FSU) was hurt. Crazy that Derrick Mayes did not start on that ND team (see Holtz, Lou).

Oh, and I was there!

Other than 10 minutes of the fourth quarter, we dominated that game... it's amazing that the score was even that close.

I watched that game live, from a tv in a living room in Worcester. There was a comment uttered by one of my collogues that I'll never forget as it perfectly summarizes why BC dominated most of the game:

Foley's getting enough time in the backfield to mow the grass.
Feminism: Eve eats ALL the apples, gives God the middle finder when He confronts her, and has the serpent serve Adam with an injunction ordering him to stay away from her AND to provide her food and shelter because he dragged her out of the Garden.

I agree with this and favor them over the 80s throwbacks. But either would be preferable compared to what we have today.

And I was there too. Number one in my rankings of sporting events that I've attended. Sadly, there isn't a close second, mainly because BC has been terrible in the two major sports for so many years. I didn't make it to any of the hockey national championship games that we won, but witnessed the loss to Michigan in Jerry's first national championship game at BC. That one sucked. Also witnessed the loss to VT in our first ACC championship. That also sucked.

It was only close because the refs started with their screwjob... no TD catch in the third Q, no call on intentional grounding that would've taken ND out of FG range, etc. I was there too and that 4th Q where we let up 3 scoring drives under a minute sucked. That 4th down conversion to Lake Dawson was brutal. Of course, all that pain led to the elation of The Kick... which was miraculous simply because it was a career long for Gordon (who had already missed a 40 yarder in the game). In ability to kick FGs has been a long staple of BC football.

I still remember Coughlin saying in a post-game interview that he told Gordon that it was just a long extra point. Straight on.

Coughlin ran a flanker screen to set the ball in the middle of the field and pick up a couple of yards (the 40 yarder that Gordon missed earlier in the game was on the hash). Contrast that with middle-shmiddle.

The non grounding call was awful but tough to blame the refs on the what should have been a TD. BC also got the benefit of 2 very close PI call/non-call in the first half. There were very few penalties in the game over all - two well coached teams. During the Daz era, we averaged one false start per quarter.

Lucky for all those who were in the stadium.

Soul crushing time for those who sat in Alumni the following Friday after Thanksgiving to witness losing to WVU. The short walk back to Edmonds seemed like forever.

Plus attending both ACCCGs? You can't help but laugh...
You what?

I didn't see this replay, but have the original telecast on cassette, including the long pregame telecast NBC aired as their role as the ND football network. It is so fun to watch because Holtz was beside himself, anticipating ND being named national champion. NBC showed the crush of people at the grotto lighting candles prior to the Fla. St. game the prior week, then showed a smattering of candles on BC gameday, so confident were the Irish and fans that it was a fait de complit.
The pregame interviews with coaches were priceless, as a gleeful Holtz oozed confidence, while in stark contrast, Coughlin spoke like the Marine corp leader about to embark on a war.
