Semifinals thread

Postby bcshater on Fri Dec 27, 2019 4:00 pm

4 p.m. Peach Bowl: Oklahoma vs. LSU
8 p.m. Fiesta Bowl: Clemson vs. Ohio State

LSU vs OSU are my predicted winners in tomorrow's semis.

Hoping Hafley, Chase Young and the OSU defense has a huge game.

I’m rooting for Clemson as well. The sooner Hafley is full time BC, the better for us. In addition, it’s good to have a strong team in your conference. It covers up a lot of the weakness found elsewhere in the ACC.

Terrible news. Just reported that a small plane from Louisiana crashed on its way to Atlanta. LSU OC's daughter-in-law among the dead. He's still going to coach tonight.

Wish these games were New Years Day games. New Years Day just doesn't have the same feel anymore, at least for myself.

Also the CFP needs to go to eight teams.

Well that was too easy for LSU. 7-0 Tigers. Darren must be happy.

28-7 LSU. Joe Burrow 4 TD passes.

Game over and only in the early stages of the 2nd quarter. LSU just intercepted Jalen Hurts on an OU trick play.

Bama was probably the 4th best team, but the committee just won't put in a 2-loss team over a 1-loss P-5 conference champ. Oklahoma got trucked by K State and was lucky in a few other games. They are not in the same league. A double header featuring a rematch of LSU-Bama and then Ohio St.-Clemson would have been a great 8 hours of television.

There were 3 top teams this year. They struggled to find a 4th (which makes talk of a larger playoff so ridiculous). LSU has been the best team all year (and it hasn’t been close).

As an aside... since the playoffs started
Records by conference
SEC 7-4 (Bama and UGA)
ACC 5-3 (Clemson and FSU)
Big10 2-2 (OSU and MSU)
PAC12 1-2 (Oregon and Washington)
ND 0-1
Big12 0-3 (Oklahoma)

Skill players all over the field for the Tigers, I still cannot come to grips with what I have been able to watch in person this season, totally dominant offense vs everybody! And once again, the stars align and LSU will play for the National Championship 80 miles from campus in NOLA...

After today's 1st semi and a HJS earlier comment I have changed my mind. The end result would be the same this year, same 4 teams. But a case could be made for a 2 loss Alabama team making the Final Four.

I realize we are nowhere near this scenario, but the reason I still support an 8-team playoff is for BC. BC would need to go undefeated to get in with just 4 teams and even then it's not a sure thing. If the playoffs were 8 teams, then you could have 5 auto bids for the P5 conference winners and then 3 at large.

8 teams makes sense because it stops the stupidity of so called experts matching the 4 best teams. Conference champs for P5 and the top ranked non-P5 get auto bids with 2 at large. Let the committee rank them and select the at large bids. You'll either get to the right teams in the end or else vindicate the point that all of this prognosticating on there only being three teams is horseshit. All it requires is for the good teams to prove it one more game.

The current format is almost as terrible as the BCS, it just makes more money.

It’s better than the old set up but agreed let’s get to 8 and end this nonsense

We don’t need a bunch of out of touch dopes deciding 100% of the field

Oklahoma should never be allowed in the CFP again. They make Notre Dame look like a battle tough playoff team and that defense of theirs is just fucking awful. Also, if Lincoln Riley is the next Cowboys coach the rest of the NFC East should laugh with glee. He loses every game where he doesn’t have an overwhelming talent advantage. Every. Single. One.

I was torn on who to root for, but I find myself pulling for Hafley, Day and OSU. I get that we want Hafley on campus as soon as possible but in terms of future Swinney-Hafley matchups, with an OSU win, Hafley would be up one on him and I would find that humorous.

The ESPN replay angle they showed after Higgins walked off was so misleading, as Fowler sold that the helmet came off “with minimal contact.” Crazy no call.
