2019-2020 Coaching Candidates Thread

I think this list starts and ends with Howard Eisley. Especially after this run through Battle 4 Atlantis Michigan just put together.

Played for JOB. Professional and collegiate coaching experience. Many people think he took this Michigan job to position himself for the BC job.

I'm a big fan of Howard Eisley, but he doesn't have much college coaching experience. It would be critical to surround him with a great staff to make sure he could bring in recruits that can actually play in the ACC which we've seen over the last ten years is more difficult than you would think. I'd be willing to give him a chance, I like the idea of bringing back someone with previous ties to BC, either way if they do pull the trigger this year they need to be willing to pay competetive salaries.

Perhaps. But I'm in the "pick the best coach possible" camp regardless of school affiliation. If he didn't go to BC, not sure I would think twice about him. Former star players as coaches can be hit or miss.

With today's firing of Addazio, it's hard to believe that Christian will complete this season. His continuing as head coach defies any logic.

The way this season has started there might not be much of a decision. So far, it's looking a lot like the last Donahue year

It happens. Tulane did this a few years ago and hired new bball and football coaches in the same year.

Basketball will be an infinitely harder hire without a practice facility and no hard plans for one yet. When the candidates ask for info on the facilities, MJ will get to show him the new granola and smoothie buffet in the locker room.

Chicken and egg unfortunately. How do you raise money for a basketball facility with the lack of energy in the program?

What if BC were to rent out the basketball program to another school for awhile? BU has that nice big arena on Comm Ave. Have them hire a new coach and maybe get to put their logo on the unis as a patch, like the advertisers do in the NBA.

Pitino is over in Greece right now coaching Tyrese and Jimmer, I would love to see him get a look, at this point, I don’t care about his past. If he had interest in PC, hes probably itching to get back somewhere

Timestamp this post.

Given what happened to Addazio (and on the very DAY it happened), I am 99% sure that the day after the ACC Tournament ends for BC (Either March 10th or maybe 11th), Christian will be gonezo. I think Jarmond is done with him and shy of a March Madness appearance in the real tournament, there will be nothing to save Christian's job. So unfortunately we'll have to suffer through another season like this, but this crap will be coming to an end one way or another.

This right here is why we need to try and get a "name" coach. A coach that will truly draw in recruits. Not saying MJ can do it, but if the $$ is not in the facilities, we have to try to put it in getting a successful NAME coach. I know this has not been MJ's way for coaching hires, but this one needs something different.

Tough to sell good candidates on this job. It’s not like football where the P5 dynamic works in our favor. The facilities and support for basketball means that you are playing in the ACC with the resources of a decent Mountain West program.

You need to find someone ambitious that you bet will provide a spark like Beard at TTU, or you start dialing for dollars until you have enough for some blueprints and try to land a bigger name based on the new investment. We missed the boat in the facilities race for hoops, and there’s a lot more good basketball jobs than there are football jobs

I'd say its extremely tough. Jarmond pretty much has to do what he did with football, hire a guy with a proven track record as an assistant, that has done solid recruiting, who is looking for his first big chance at head coaching, and hope we get lucky. At this point, none of really know if we got lucky with Hafley (or not.) Only time will tell.

Mike Brey would never come here anyway. He already went through everything we are going to have to go through for the last 15 years—pick a program in tatters off the floor, get upgrades on the existing arena space to put it on a par with its competitors, return the program to respectability with tournament appearances and a run to the Elite 8 and the Sweet Sixteen, and the get a state of the art practice facility. The irony, is that after wading through all of that shit, due to a couple of key recruiting misses and severe injuries to a couple of the highly rated recruits he did land, the program has taken a major step back the last two years. With that said, Brey’s 2020 recruiting class, which is only “meh” will likely exponentially better than anything Jimmy MAC has brought in, with the 4th best player in said class—Matt Zona—being as good as Pop.

I like the Vermont coach, but he took over a program that was in very good shape when he got there. Honestly, I think you give Eisley a shot and you make sure the practice facility gets built in his first couple of years. If the rumors I am hearing about a deep pocket donor ready to build a hockey-only facility like the one at Notre Dame are true, then maybe you spend a year playing at the Garden while you gut the shit out of Conte and turn it into a reasonably modern 9 or 10K basketball arena.

Clemson did this with Littlejohn Arena- played in Greenville for 1 season. This would make great sense.

I’m all for gutting Conte, but they should reduce capacity, not increase it. It rarely sells out and when it actually does sell out, it is because it’s half filled with opposing fans. And the sell outs also create horrendous traffic with only two garages and Newton neighbors not allowing street parking for more than one hour.

Put seat backs in the upper deck which would reduce capacity a bit. Also, DBS continues to be ridiculous given the lack of demand. Get rid of that shit.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski on twitter

Sources: Beilein left for the All-Star break weighing his future as coach -- including the possibility that he's coached his final game, league sources tell ESPN. He has yet to make convey a decision, but there's been conversation w/ management about the option of a prompt exit.

Obv a school like Texas may have an opening and have gobs if money to throw at him, just thought I’d leave this here
