DomingoOrtiz {l Wrote}:McDuffie listed as the starting SLB on depth chart with Sparacio. Otherwise, nothing surprising.

I was a bit surprised that Yeargin is starting. But it was a pleasant surprise because even if he is not at full strength it shows he can at least be serviceable.

DL is desperate for bodies. There is no proven talent & they are small as well.

This kid is our only hope in replacing any of the production from Allen and Ray. Kids are gonna have to contribute fast: maybe someone will come out of the woodwork, but right now it looks bleak.

The fact we list Glines and Levy at WR is the most BC thing ever.

Bleak? Bleak was the defensive line (with 3 Seniors on it, including Allen and Ray) giving up 300 yards rushing to Wake Forest of all teams.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/matchup?gameId=401013109

I'm sorry, 27 first downs to Wake Fucking Forest (including 6 out of 7 1st down conversions on 4th down?!?!?!?) The 200 yards rushing they gave up to that "baby rapist" Temple a couple weeks later just further demonstrated that they couldn't get it done. Neither of these games were opening games where they were getting the rust off either.

Did you guys even watch the games last year? I watched 9 of the games. The defense couldn't get off the field unless they intercepted a pass or recovered a fumble. Not impressive. Look at all the first downs they gave up all year, terrible. I'm not saying that the defensive line (this year) is going to be any better that they were last year. But I have a hard time imagining them being any worse than last year's unit. There was no Ron Brace, Mike Mamulla, Mike Ruth, BJ Raji, Kiwanuka, Chris Hovan, or even a Chris Sullivan on it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the defense turns out a bit better this year. Allen will be missed, Harris and Torres to an extent. They’re inexperienced, but the linebackers are much better in my opinion. The corners are bigger and more athletic, but will take some time to develop. Safety play was alright last year, but Mehdi and Palmer have experience and I don’t think the drop off will be so terrible there. The line is a question mark, and Allen will be a miss but if Yeargin is able to get back and one of the many other guys on the line flashes some potential it shouldn’t be such a drop off.

By the time we get to the back of the schedule I’m not sure we will be much worse than we were last year. I think we coasted against some pretty awful offenses last year. We might not be so lucky this year, but it won’t be on the defense necessarily.
