We'll have to disagree on definition of role player. When i think role player...i think of Chatman actually. One trick pony who should only be playing 20-25 minutes and purely as a 3 point specialist. Can't defend, can't rebound, and rarely gets assists. Mitchell brings so much more to the floor in all aspects.

Also, last night shows that if Bowman and Robinson are both on -- than this team COULD make some noise in the ACC tourney so shutting him down is just dumb :whiteflag type mentality. A hamstring contusion is not cause for long term concern.

to me this is a lot different than the wake coach was in the first four and went 19-14 (9-9) last year. as a wake fan, this year i would be expecting progression beyond that, so 11-18 (4-13) would be a fireable offense to me.

similarly, if jimmy mac does not improve upon his record from this season next season and make the ncaa's, i would imagine he will be axed.

This. I actually think he's a good coach. Last night was a clinic in coaching. He has his nights, and sometimes the team doesn't look ready coming out of the locker room, but he adjusts, calls good plays and generally has a good gameplan against the abnormal, like Cuse's zone. A prime example would be that BC never has much trouble with the press anymore - last night's absurd 10 second call notwithstanding - when a decent CYO team could have pressed the Al and Don teams out of the gym. Ask Bruce Pearl.

He also has shown a decent eye for recruiting the way that Al recruited - find the underrated guys that will be there four years. He's also clearly made Robinson and Bowman and Chatman better players while they were here, and while less obvious, the bigs have improved on his watch.

He's got a big red flag - he has no bench because the depth of the talent he has recruited isn't there, and there have been a ton of transfers. These aren't good things. But an AD can convince themselves after this season and this recruiting class that it is worth one more shot with this guy because there should be decent depth and an NCAA run. And when you build a program designed to win with seniors, it takes time to get seniors. It's taking this guy too long, but it is what it is.

Chatman is the third scorer and averages 13/3/1.7 per game. Mitchell is a good rebounder who plays a lot of minutes because a guy got hurt and there's no depth. He's got a lot of potential, but right now he's basically the prototype of a role player.

You're on crack if you think they can make enough noise to make the NCAAs. That ended on a last second shot in Miami. I'm not saying shut him down for no reason, but if the injury matters enough, the season no longer does.

Never said i thought they could make enough noise to make the NCAA's. Just saying that if both Ky and Robinson are on -- you can't discount a run in the ACC Tourney. But since the season is done then why bother trying i guess.

pretty much. i'm embarrassed to admit that my hatred of jimmy mac has softened and other than his random wtf turd game a couple times a month, i realize he might be an okayish coach. tedwardo laid it out pretty well as to why and i sadly agree with a lot of it. i'm not ready to marry jimmy mac like 49dueagle was ready to marry ballgame, but i also don't hate him with the power of eleventy,000,000,000 exploding red pills

It's not about why bother. It's about risk. If he's not hurt, by all means play him. If he's hurt enough that there is a risk he tears a hamstring, playing him to fight for seeding in the NIT is idiotic. They have less than 2% chance to make it past the second round of the ACC or make the NCAA.

What junior is going to the NBA other than JRob? Chatman?

Slaughter sucks because he can't coach the talent he brings in, and that's not going to change or get any less infuriating. You have to hope that the talent plays well enough to overcome full retard if you want more than 7-8 wins.

JC has sucked because he didn't recruit enough guys that could play over the first few years, but you could see that he knew his X's and O's. The question was always whether he's get more than 3-4 guys that belonged on an ACC hoop team. Jury is still out, but this recruiting class has to at least give you hope that he might just get there.

Agreed, JC is an X's and O's guy and never struck me as a bad coach.

Did you all erase that last Miami game from your memory?

One could argue that good coaching was the only reason they beat Miami the first time and were in a position to do so again. Miami is a tournament team.

commavegarage {l Wrote}:fwiw (and i honestly have no idea how much it truly is worth), i gotta imagine it'd be a pretty big red flag to any coach worth his salt if we fired a coach who went 18-13 (8-10) after going 0-18 and 2-16 the year before.

to me this is a lot different than the wake coach was in the first four and went 19-14 (9-9) last year. as a wake fan, this year i would be expecting progression beyond that, so 11-18 (4-13) would be a fireable offense to me.

similarly, if jimmy mac does not improve upon his record from this season next season and make the ncaa's, i would imagine he will be axed.

Mods, please check on the well being of TW. It appears longdistanceagle has hijacked his account.

TobaccoRoadEagle {l Wrote}:pretty much. i'm embarrassed to admit that my hatred of jimmy mac has softened and other than his random wtf turd game a couple times a month, i realize he might be an okayish coach. tedwardo laid it out pretty well as to why and i sadly agree with a lot of it. i'm not ready to marry jimmy mac like 49dueagle was ready to marry ballgame, but i also don't hate him with the power of eleventy,000,000,000 exploding red pills

it reminds me a little of jobias in the early going, and his curley-eisley-huckaby-abrams class. they underachieved in their 3rd year and i was ready to play bongos on jobias's head as he was led out of conte... but he put together a helluva 4th year for those fellows. granted, the game has moved on a little in the last 24 years and our juniors aren't all likely to stay... but if they did i think jimmy mac might be able to make a run (and maybe only lose 1 or 2 television-breakingly-terrible-games)

there, i said it.

p & s - fuck t.s. slaughter in the eyeball. my opinion of him will never change

This is probably the most positive thing I've seen you post about BC sports in the last decade.

that's nice but i think the more apt term is "least negative"

since jags and coach handsome left, what has there been to inspire positive posts? i was positive spaz was the wrong hire. i was positive that donahue looked like beeker. i was positive butt cut was a waste of space. i am positive you like gurls that have thick, glistening, throbbing weeners. i am positive huang kissed my weener in 1993/1994, etc...
