I admit, I've watched the show and will again, but can't believe how there's so much acceptance for a show that exploits and perpetuates a terribly negative ethnic stereotype. What I hope is that this show destroys the guido lifestyle. Unfortunately, guidos are too stupid to realize that the term was always an insult. I can live with showing guidos (and by extension Italians) as people who like muscles and tans, but violence against women is another thing entirely. At least the Sopranos was a completely fictional show held out as fiction, not a fictional show held out as "reality." While I'm not condoning it, domestic violence has been going on for a long time as has the portrayal of Italians being less than the refined gentlemen many of us are. Jersey Shore is a fictional-reality show meant to entertain us. Did the beating that Jake Lamatta put on his wife Vicki draw this much outrage?
