HJS {l Wrote}:Trustees being more concerned about athletic affiliation rather than athletic performance is the problem (I've given up any hope of State School trustees ever giving a flying fuck about academics). I like BC casually being a part of major college athletics. However, as this thing unravels, I'm all-in with Swarbrick's comments. I'm fine with BC adopting an Ivy League model if the only other alternative is essentially league that determines the best minor league system. College sports (in my opinion) is very close to jumping the shark.

twballgame9 {l Wrote}:ND and BC are not making that philosophical choice. That is laugh out loud funny, almost as if Dodd from CBS wrote it.

If you divided the conferences like Dodd did, I might never watch another BC game. I dont think I would pay to see more than 5 of those teams.
ND isnt going in the other bracket.

UNC created a whole fake academic department to get jocks through. They don't care about student athletes.
This all ends with the NFL and NBA taking over a bunch of semi-pro club teams formerly associated with colleges. The Alabama Crimson Tide will be a minor league team owned by any an NFL owner that plays in Tuscaloosa. The College Football Playoff was a huge TV success and what did the NFL do? Announced that next year they are going to play games on those dates and basically force ESPN and the advertiser hands.
twballgame9 {l Wrote}:This is exactly what is going to happen and BC will be a part of it. Football and basketball players are going to get paid. It will be set amounts, a stipend that will be part of the scholarship package. This will, of course be challenged under Title IX in the Courts. It may be possible to combat this by giving all athletes a stipend, and then giving basketball and football a "profit sharing" bonus. But make no mistake, this is going to be a fucking disaster no matter how you cut it. It's just that the minor league idea is epic stupid, whereas the paying players idea is only really stupid.

tallsy {l Wrote}:My longstanding proposal:
Independent auditor calculates yearly NCAA net profits (TV Income - Cost of All tournaments). 5% for overhead. Maybe a small rainy day fund. Then distribute the rest amongst all student athletes from football to ladies' bowling. It's legally unchallagable regardless of how little each individual athlete would make.
