Ray Smith is now official as well.
Good job to Daz on holding all our commits plus adding the DL from Richmond.

I like the fact that LOI Day is boring.

Did we ever lose a guy under Spaz? Or did he effectively take care of that much earlier in the recruiting process?

In order to lose a guy, we had to have someone somebody else wanted.
Is this the 5 o'clock free crack giveaway?

Looking at the 2015 class (and combining it with last year), I find a few things interesting...

Daz has made New England a priority (11 recruits are from NE (7-MA/4-CT)) (10 last year (8-MA/2-CT)). About 40% of the last 2 classes come from New England.

We have 7 2-stars, but all are from the Northeast and were kids that the staff was very familiar with (3-MA/1-CT/2-NY). Last year, our 2-stars were spread a little bit more geographically, but all camped except for Dixon.

BC's haul in Jersey is a fraction of what it once was (only a total of 2). Last year, we landed 6. What's weird about this is that RU's recruiting has fallen off a cliff under Flood. So, kids are leaving the State... just not to us. Would really like to see BC do a better job there (and they have a chance to do that with the replacement for Day's departure). However, if you include NY and PA along with Jersey, we are averaging 6 a year from the region.

BC has been recruiting Florida at historic levels (for the school)... 6 this year and a total of 9 spread over the last 2 classes.

BC does not seem all that interested in Ohio (or the Midwest in general). We have landed only 4 total midwestern kids over the past 2 classes (3 from OH and 1 from Mich).

When BC moves outside of the Northeast, they seem to be very deliberate in their efforts pin-pointing certain kids and often focusing on Catholic schools.

A positional breakdown of the last 2 classes:
QB - 4 (Wade, Smith, Robinson and Flutie (though Smith/Robinson/Flutie all could and 2 likely will play WR or DB))
RB - 3 (Hilliman, Outlow and Gowins (not including Wilson or Alston))
WR - 5 (Dixon, McCleary, Smith, Borgersen and Pankey)
TE - 3 (Sweeney, Burt and Garrison)
OL - 8 (Baker, Hendren, Schmal, Lindstrom, Monteiro, Palazzolo, Phillips and Knopfke)
DL - 7 (Vitiello, Landry, Stevens, Merritt, Allen, Ray, Smith)
LB - 7 (Cohee, Lezzer, Schwab, Strachan, Grice, Martin and Karafa)
DB - 7 (Moore, Bletzer, Dawson, Yiadom, Jones, Denis, Walker)
ATH - 7 (Alston, Wilson, Seward, Glines, Harris, Torres and El Attrach)
K - 1 (Knoll)

Based on all of this, I predict 2016 to be broken down (by position) as follows:
1+ QB
2 RB
2 WR
1+ TE
3+ OL
4+ DL
3 LB
3+ DB
1 K

I was thinking of singing day surprises in particular. I remember Lynch and the kid we lost to Northeastern track, but that was prior to NLI day. I guess Spaz did most of his demotivating and losing potential players in that period between his kid's baseball season and the start of Football season.

The way I see it, there are a lot of potentially talented young men coming in to the Heights and a good chance some of these young men excel as football players at Boston College. You never know whether a recruit will translate into a good college player but the more players you bring in, the greater your chances are of finding talented players. It is also exciting that Boston College has a legitimate shot of halftime entertainment performed by a giant like Enrico Palazzo, which is the kind of entertainment that could lead to a packed house at Alumni Stadium. There is always a chance that the players recruited from high school do not pan out to be great players at the collegiate level but you don't know until you play the game. That's the way I see it.

For what its worth, Rivals rates several of our recruits lower than the other sites. ESPN actually has us with zero 2 stars and one 4 star (Knopfke). That's 24 three-stars. Now it may just be that ESPN has a little grade inflation compared to the other sites, but regardless of accuracy what I find impressive is how much better ESPN rates this years class than it has rated previous years' BC classes.

ESPN 2 Stars or Less
- 2015: Zero
- 2014: 6
- 2013: 6
- 2012: 9
- 2011: 8
- 2010: 10

That's a reassuring step up.

And yet... they have 9 (including ND) ACC schools ranked in their Top 40 (of which BC is not among, but Duke is).

Great analysis by Master. I think Daz's focus these first two years was to bring in speed. We were such a slow team that we were going nowhere with the read option without speed. BC outran USC and PSU, probably scoring too quickly on PSU with the 2 long td runs. When was the last time if ever that we saw BC with this much speed? I really like the DL recruits overall speed and the QB's he brought in. He is very good at bringing in talent that fits his system on both sides of the ball. Hilliman is better than Akeel Lynch. The future is bright and BC is going to be fun to watch!

At the risk of damaging my own agenda, go look at these kids local newspapers and see where they actually had offers from.

Palazzolo said he picked BC over Penn St, Miami and Pitt.

There are plenty of other examples of this as well

If you feel like being highly annoyed on a Monday morning, read this article.

Which part was your favorite? "Despite Boston College not being known for its play on the football field" or "Altough[sic] Boston College is no SEC powerhouse"

The full quote: "Despite Boston College not being known for its play on the football field, Lichtenberg chose Boston College over full-ride offers from Fresno State, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State." Does this imply that Fresno Sate, Middle Tennessee State and New Mexico State are (more) known for football?!

Also, this helps sort out a bit of the scholarship situation: "Lichtenberg will technically be walk onto the team this fall, but in January he will be put on a scholarship. “It was not seen that Coach Addazio would have kicking problems, so he threw some offers out and didn’t have a spot for me,” said Lichtenberg." I guess he's a 2016 scholarship...

With lines like this, the piece must be the 'authors' magnum opus

"Lichtenberg will technically be walk onto the team this fall, but in January he will be put on a scholarship."

makes sense to me. he takes off his greyshirt and puts on a scholarship. it's similar to the redshirt process... but doesn't have to be declared until the scholarship is available for him to put on
now in the street there is violence
and, and a lots of work to be done
no place to hang out our washing
and, and i can't blame all on the sun
good god we gonna rock down to electric avenue
and then we'll take it higher
