When the wristband gates opened around 1:00, I walked over to a friends tailgate and noticed two guys at the tailgate next to us setting up their spread which included two 15 gallon trash cans full of bud light chilling on ice, a case of rubinoff handles, and about 500 solo cups.
Once the general admission gates opened, the music started and we observed a flood of undergrads shotgunning beers and/or drinking straight from a fireball handle that was being passed around.
We concluded after some discussion that since you can't get into the mods unless you are 21 on gameday the upperclassmen have stepped up to provide an enjoyable tailgate experience in spite of the best efforts by the administration to prevent it.
While most of my more memorable pre-game tailgate experiences were in the mods as an underclassmen, I applaud the ingenuity of the current students as the school attempts to legislate fun out of student tailgating.
It is also truly a shame that the administration has made the decision to eliminate access for over 3/4 of the student body to the only student run tailgating location on campus.
I've noticed the same thing the past few times I've tailgated at Shea. There seems to be a large number of parents who bought tailgating spots so that their kids could come and tailgate with their friends before the game (I think someone on Atl's blog mentioned something similar).
You must have been near Ms. BCMurt09 as she mentioned to me the same group drinking from the fireball bottle.
