Corporal Funishment {l Wrote}:The current roster is poorly constructed in that we don't have a point guard/primary ball handler and Hanlan may be the only guy on the roster who can credibly fill that role, meaning he probably plays 38 minutes every game unless he gets in foul trouble. At the wing we have a ton of options: Jackson, Owens, Hicks, Heckmann, Batten, even Drago. The real question is do we play 2 big men at once or one at a time, in order to get more wings on the floor?
Predicting the starting lineup is pretty tough, after Hanlan.
Hanlan/Jackson/Heckmann/Odio/Clifford ???
Hanlan/Owens/Heckmann/Diallo/Clifford ???
Hanlan/Owens/Jackson/Heckmann/Magarity ???
Could Batten or Hicks break in?
I kind of imagine everyone other than Hanlan getting cycled in and out a lot.

First-year coaches are usually stuck with their predecessors' leftovers, so Christian deserves some tolerance for the upcoming season. At the same time, it should be enlightening to see how much performance he and his assistants can extract from such a motley crew - anything even close to .500 would be a pleasant (but unlikely) surprise.

Year 2 (2015-16) will feature a large number of Christian's own recruits, so at that point we should start to judge more rigorously (with due allowance for freshman inconsistency). Short of catastrophe, it's not easy to dump a coach less than four seasons in, so that should be our ordinary "up or out" number.

eepstein0 {l Wrote}:Hanlan, Hicks, Heckmann, Diallo and Clifford should start.
Use Batten, Owens and I guess Odio off the bench.
If JC is serious about defense, I don't want to see anymore of Lonnie Jackson or Caudill or Magerity frankly. None of those players are particularly useful on offense either.
You could start Odio and use Diallo off the bench against smaller teams. The more zi look at that list of players the more I realize we aren't going to be any good this year.
