it will never happen
also, unless beers are $2, people who aren't going to BC games now aren't going to start just because there is a new place to drink.

especially if it's limited to 3 low alcohol beers per game

truth
people are also ignoring the fact that it is insanely easy (and a lot more cost-effective) to sneak alcohol into alumni.

It's unlikely, but definitely worth it. There are casual fans who might just want to show up to a game, without a parking pass, and not have to worry about sneaking alcohol into the stadium. This makes for a slightly better fan experience and is a no-brainer if you ask me, especially with the limited parking space on BC's campus. One could argue potential liability would be more than the additional revenue and not worth the risk, but students and other fans are already drinking excessively on campus on game days.

Half price beers ($3) starting 45 mins prior to kickoff with vendors selling in the stands. That should get a good crowd in their seats for kickoff!

Sounds like better wi-fi and more cellular capacity just gets your foot in the door with the nerds. Can you get a good cellular signal in Alumni? Do we offer an open wi-fi network? I don't recall any problems making a call while at Alumni but I have no idea about wi-fi.

you were in a stadium with 20k - 25k others. the stadiums with problems have 3 - 4 times as many people.

that said, we've always heard about how awesometacular those fans are so why would they need wi-fi or cell service?

could this mean that our fans (or at least those that actuall show up) aren't really that horrible?

There are ways around it if you advertise some kind of food special too. I know Cityside had a happy hour back in the day.

There was actually a movement to get that law repealed and allow happy hour in MA again, but the bars and restaurants put a stop to it because they were afraid of the ensuing price wars.

Do you have more details on this? Because that doesn't make sense to me. Price wars can happen with or without happy hour. I'd sooner believe MADD or the local universities used their influence to squash it.

No problems getting a signal at Alumni. There's no wi-fi, but if you sit near the press box you can access its open wi-fi. Regardless, I don't think internet access has any bearing on attendance.

they can't add open wi-fi to the stadium until they close in the upper bowl. without it, all the wi-fis would slip out the end zone openings and go unused putting us right back where we started.

I don't think that's true. According to this article, there has been a ban on happy hours in Massachusetts since 1984. Every happy hour that I'm familiar with in Boston is limited to food specials.

this.

the recent repeal was proposed so that bars/restaurants could compete with the nearby casinos giving free drinks to those at tables. it was not snubbed by the bars/restaurants. and casinos of course now may be repealled in November.

I was always under the impression that bars/restaurants in MA could offer discounted drinks during a set time period each day, but it was mandated that the deal must be offered everyday (including sat/sun) and therefore many bars (outside of Roggies) wouldn't offer it due to the loss of revenue on weekends from afternoon sporting events like NFL/college football/college basketball/etc.

I heard a beer/drink had to be offered at a certain price for at least one week regardless of time. Ultimately, it's probably some combination of what you wrote and what I heard. I did a quick google search and can't find the actual reg.

BC paid for a new cell tower in the summer of 2013 (?) to help but correct when there's a sellout and add to it people just there to tailgate cell service goes out.

I imagine if they didn't make any further improvements it'll go out for USC in Sept.

I have always thought it was all day every day one price (changes must be for long term periods), but it does seem like the way you explain it produces the same results for the reasons you stated.

I am currently negotiating a game watch with a Boston bar and find it interesting the flexibility they have in actually pricing what we're discussing. But the pricing would involve either drinks served a way they don't regularly offer (meaning the prices has not been set) or a combo with food that's not on the menu. I haven't questioned it because at the end of the day I'm not liable and it helps my people.

Opposition came from the MA Restaurant Association because they were afraid of a "race to the bottom". I guess most of the opposition still came from the Eva Webster types, but I was shocked to learn that restaurants weren't all in favor.
http://www.boston.com/metrodesk/2013/02/01/mass-alcohol-regulators-say-happy-hours-should-remain-banned/SSKktmznhrKSpFoudQwntM/story.html

I guess it came up because of the casinos being allowed to serve free drinks, but every casino vote gets shot down by the locals anyway.

I do recall a time prior to the short-lived Budzilla period at Roggies Happy Hour that dollar drafts went in effect from 4-7 PM (along with the .25 wing special), but the vigilant waitress always kept a watchful eye ensuring that there were not more than 2 drinks per person on the table. We just invited females to our table who didn't drink much to minimize the chance we would run out of beer in the middle of 7 11 doubles before said waitress came around to take our order.

this reminds me of my first visit to tcs. there was a discussion about crashing some merryman game watch at the sports depot. there seemed to be much hilarity ensuing and many butthurt feelings.

it was because of that thread/discussion that i decided to stick around more spreading my love of "penis in the box" and other sports hating hijacking topics. so you dickholes have that group of rouges to thank.

by the way, as soon as someone learns of the location of prickfest 2014, please let me know. i'll begin auditions for the rest of the "family" that i plan to arrive with

Are they going to allow Nick inside, or is it "not that kind of bar?"

this reminds me of my first visit to tcs. there was a discussion about crashing some merryman game watch at the sports depot. there seemed to be much hilarity ensuing and many butthurt feelings.

it was because of that thread/discussion that i decided to stick around more spreading my love of "penis in the box" and other sports hating hijacking topics. so you dickholes have that group of rouges to thank.

by the way, as soon as someone learns of the location of prickfest 2014, please let me know. i'll begin auditions for the rest of the "family" that i plan to arrive with

Do the merrymen and/or teh tubas have gamewatches? Just curious. Asking for a friend.

i think the merrymen all moved south waiting for that one merryman to die so the rest could run train on his widower wife.

i believe the tubas have game watches but to get in you need to know the secret handshake (by the way claver mentioned in the semi-secret board that the "handshake" involves no hands)
now in the street there is violence
and, and a lots of work to be done
no place to hang out our washing
and, and i can't blame all on the sun
good god we gonna rock down to electric avenue
and then we'll take it higher
