hansen {l Wrote}:Lost amongst the hullabaloo of the obstruction call is the boneheaded decision by the catcher to throw to third with Kozma coming up to bat, middlebrooke not coming off the bag to keep the ball on the infield and preventing the play at the plate, and the poor managing by Farrell throughout the entire game.
Just sayin is all

hansen {l Wrote}:Dubront seems like a heck of a pitcher from what little i've seen from him this series.
Farrell bringing in Breslow... Maybe the Cards still have a chance to comeback after all.
pick6pedro {l Wrote}:Correct call. Most of the whining I've heard uses arguments that don't matter like the third base ump wasn't looking, it wasn't right on the base line, or there wasn't intent. Quit whining.

hansen {l Wrote}:Wow, of all ways for the Cards to make the final out in the 9th. That was embarrassing/shocking.
It would have been nice to see what Beltran would have done with a guy on first and the count 1-1 and Holliday on deck. Maybe nothing but how can you take the bat out of your 2-3 hitters' hands. Also, this team is missing Craig in the lineup more than the redsox miss Napoli. But, clearly his foot his not ready to go based on his baserunning in the 9th.

Cards werent' coming back in that game. But yes, that was embarrassing. Almost as embarrassing as the goofy ass play by the two teams the previous 3 games. This has been one of the most poorly played world series in my memory.
And the two managers have completely lost their minds. If Matheny is not being crucified for the last few nights, STL really is a bunch of soft loser baseball fans, like their reputation.

Some people were upset with some of his moves last night. To me, it was more about execution.
It's not Matheny's fault that Maness threw a "sinker" belt high. There are bad pitches and then there was THAT pitch.

"Unintentional Interference" is an oxymoron.
Even MLB knew it was stupid, they are already changing the rule. Every time Torre came out to talk about that call, he looked embarrassed.
Oh, and you don't make that call there ever. Like calling pass interference on a Hail Mary in the 4th Q of the SB - might have happened, but swallow the whistle.
hansen {l Wrote}:Must win for the Cards tonight.
Selig (in his best David Stern impression) appears to have decided this series is going 7.
p.s. are these the best umpires in the game right now? they are absolutely awful. no consistency to the strike zone from one batter to the next for either team.

I guess the umps should conform calls to the way the rule will be written in the future or ignore the rules at some times and not others. While I admit, SOP tends to be to swallow the whistle in those circumstances - it still doesn't make the call wrong or bogus or any of the other emotionally-driven words you used when it happened, so all of your bitching is still just bitching. I do agree that this is one of the sloppiest and mismanaged Series I've ever seen - and Ron Washington isn't even involved!
Now you know how the Raiders felt.

Just remember that Matt Holliday was highly recruiting for football. You dont want him coming in hard on your SS. i forget the player he took out a couple years ago but it was NOT a pretty sight. So be careful what you sow.

Haven't noticed the umpires make that many bad calls behind the plate. Sox bitch once in a while, but I don't think either team has any beefs there. Ignore that box, it is idiotic. And they have gotten a lot of tough calls right, including the overturn in Game 1, and the play by Pedroia last night. I'm not a fan of the interpretation of the obstruction rule, since the words Interference or obstruction by definition connote intent, and you shouldn't make that call there ever, but if that is what the league told them was the right way to call it, then fine.
I also haven't noticed anything to indicate that the games are being steered by anyone other than the players. Tough to make happen in baseball anyway.
Oh, and I think last night was the must win game for the Cards. But yes, if you think they can score on a lefty, tonight is an absolute must win.

I freely admit that the call is technically correct now that I have seen the idiotic wording of the rule. My initial reaction was based on my knowledge of the high school/college rule from 20 years ago and plain English.
Even so, it is a stupid fucking rule called at a stupid time based on an interpretation of words that are inherently contradictory.
