Snippets from a Free edition of the Recruiting trail on 247:
- Red Bank Catholic (NJ) lineman Quenton Nelson plans to visit Chestnut Hill next weekend and will take in a Boston College spring practice. The 247Composite four-star holds offers from the likes of Penn State, Ohio State, Oregon and more.
- Also coming in that weekend will be St. Peter's Prep (NJ) safety Shamir Bearfield and St. John's Prep (MA) running back Johnathan Thomas. Bearfield is teammates with 2013 signee Charlie Callinan and Thomas has been a frequent visitor to Chestnut Hill, swinging through campus at least three times over the last few months.
- Everett (MA) safety Lubern Figaro received his first offer on Wednesday and it came from the "hometown" Eagles, who he visited that same day. I spoke with him last night and he tells me that Boston College is "one of my top choices." More in a full story over the weekend.
- Also receiving an offer on Wednesday was Minster (OH) tight end Ethan Wolf. The 247Composite four-star already held offers from NC State, Nebraska, Kentucky and more. He says he was "excited" for the news and considers Boston College a "very solid" offer. More in a full story this weekend.
- Good Counsel (MD) running back Leo Ekwoge tells me that Eagles assistant Ben Albert is one of the coaches he talks to the most and Boston College was the first place that came to mind when asked about future visits.
- I spoke with four-star quarterback Will Ulmer some last night and the St. John's College (DC) star tells me that he is scheduled to visit Boston College on April 13th and that the Eagles are still recruiting him "very hard."
- I caught up with Miramar (FL) defensive back Andre Godfrey about the South Florida offer he received last night. "(Don Brown) said he likes the fact that I'm versatile," said Godfrey. "If I attend Boston College, I'll be playing early and I'll be able to play corner and safety."
- Four-star tackle Juwann Bushell-Beatty has seen his recruitment blow up in the past couple months, including an offer from Boston College toward the end of February. However, it may be his fellow Paramus Catholic (NJ) lineman, Billy Ray Mitchell, that could be next to receive an Eagles offer.
- Finally, for the first time in a long time, there is a feeling that Boston College will keep some big talent "home." In years past, the biggest issue (for me, and I'm sure many others) has been that the few BCS-caliber prospects in the area have chosen to leave Boston to play at the collegiate level. In 2014, though, I'd argue that the Eagles lead for not only Everett (MA) defensive back Lubern Figaro, as mentioned above, but also for St. John's Prep (MA) running back Johnathan Thomas, Dexter School (MA) tackle James Hendren and Millis (MA) guard Jon Baker. St. Sebastian (MA) linebacker Connor Strachan could also be included in that group, but he has been relatively quiet of late.
