Per Feldman it's UCONN's Don Brown.

In 2012 UConn ranked 10th in Total Defense, allowing 310 ypg, and 23rd in points allowed (19.83). By contrast, BC ranked 101st and 74th respectively.

Well that would be a marked change in philosophy.

The Washington Post described Brown's scheme as "organized chaos" and "blitzing nearly 85 percent of the time."

I have routinely stated that I am a fan of Heater. I hope he makes it onto the staff. That said, Don Brown is a very good hire for BC. Scratch that... Don Brown is an EXCELLENT hire. Not only has he consistently been a great DC. Not only is he known as a pretty good recruiter. He has complete knowledge of the ACC... after being Fridge's DC in Maryland. He was retained by HCRE, but soon left in February when UConn replaced HCRE with PaulP.

As for Heater, I will point out that he has always been a DBs catch and also was the RC at Florida. I don't know if he is young enough to be an RC, but I would be happy to give him a chance at RC/DB again. Especially, since it would mean that we are finally Ravo-free. Also... I think Don Brown and McGovern go way back... which could give some credence to the rumors of him staying on as LB coach. If Heater is moving on from Daz, you have to think that Kevin Lempa would be a likely candidate to return for his 3rd go-around at BC.

With the offense being Day, Devine, Frye and likely Rogers (assume WR coach), and the D shaping up to be Brown, Guvs and some form of Heater/Lempa, Daz needs to hire minorities for the RB and DL coaches.

Count me as a fan of this hire. One thing that will be interesting is our transition to an aggressive, blitzing defense. I think we might be in for a rude awakening as to just how bad our DBs are, given that Spaz's scheme asked them to do very little. That said, maybe the novel ideas of "using a nickle corner" and "getting a pass rush" could actually put them in a position to succeed.

Addazio replaced Frank Spaziani, who was fired after going 6-18 the past two seasons. The Eagles, 2-10 in 2012, ranked No. 101 in total defense this fall. The Eagles were No. 120 in sacks, No. 120 in tackles for loss and No. 112 in rushing defense. They surrendered over 30 points or more six times in 2012. Brown should help remedy the Eagles' struggles on defense. His UConn defense ranked No. 10 in the nation in total defense, No. 7 in rushing defense and No. 19 in sacks. His D was arguably the lone bright spot on a 5-7 season for the Huskies.

In 2011, the UConn defense was ranked fourth in the country in rushing defense at 85.67 yards per game. UConn was also 13th in the country in sacks and 19th in tackles for loss. The year before Brown arrived, UConn was No. 51 in rushing defense; No. 47 in sacks and No. 26 in TFLs. Prior to his stint in Storrs, Brown sparked a big improvement in the Maryland defense.

They were afraid that we were going to steal him as our HEAD COACH. This is a kick to the junk that we are taking him for the same position he held in Storrs.

very very good hire. He routinely puts out great defenses and nationally doesnt get alot of acclaim. He will shape up this defense with his schemes and aggression. the one thing I agreew ith HJS or whoever posted it is that the last two hires NEED to be minority candidates. I am not even sure if only having two on staff is enough. It will be used agaisnt BC in recruiting. Last years staff had, Washington, Smith and Desai, I believe that is it. Is it confirmed that rodgers and/or Heater are coming? Those could be two other openings.

While I agree that this is a good move, I am going to take a more positive approach with respect to the DBs. I agree that some of them will not be able to play man coverage, but I think others will thrive in a system that allows them to actually be defensive backs instead of just tacklers. For example, I think ALJ and the Joneses have the potential to be much better if they are allowed to cover people. Verdict is out on Asprilla, who I believed thrived in the run up and tackle defense. Richardson is an unknown. Sylvia will have to move back to safety, which is a good thing. Likewise, I really like Simmons at FS in this D.

I could see a decent secondary with ALJ and CJ Jones at the corners and Simmons and Sylvia at S. Asprilla covering the slot in the nickle. I think safety blitzes could be especially effective, and I think you will see KPL blitzing a lot.

That is certainly possible as well. It's such a big change that I would believe a big range for how this will turn out next year. Regardless, I very much like the move and think even if we have growing pains, it will be worth it.

Day and Brown are the only official announcements I've seen. But, Frye is apparently recruiting for BC. So, you have to assume he is guaranteed a spot.

Everyone else is pure conjecture. Devine is Day's buddy and is known to still be on the road recruiting (along with Ravo). Rogers/Heater are supposedly tight with Daz.

Blitzing has its downside. When you have D backs that can't cover you can give up a lot of points very quickly.

Sure but if the blitzing works the way it should it actually mitigates the lack of D Back talent by disrupting the qb and not letting routes develop. I would love to see a middle ground where blitzing is used where appropriate and more conservative defenses are used when appropriate.
