Haven't you and most posters (including me) been down on the last year of Jags/first 1/2 year of Spaz recruiting and all subsequent years of Spaz recruiting?

How would you analyze the current talent level on the roster?

the depth is not there but there is still plenty of front line talent to win 6 games in a shit conference and get to some shit bowl game (especially with a senior QB).

i think the right coach could do it in the ACC. he would need to recruit his ass off but not impossible. would also have to give some reps to the backup QB to prepare for the following year. we would get blown out in the BCS game but thats irrelevant. my point is the ACC is not good and we are not that far behind.

i personally think the talent is not as bad as most make it out to be. the starters are serviceable for the most part. the backups is where the talent gap is noticeable. you could scheme around a lot of the weaknesses... the secondary, OL, DL. probably employ a lot of delayed LB blitzing to make up the lack of pass rush by the DL and play cushion in the secondary to prevent giving up the big play.

we get smart, tough, players willing to work. the right coach could lead them to big things quickly. i think if we had gotten Diaco he could have flipped a lot of the Mass talent back to BC and maybe some others in NJ/OH.

I think Addazio is more likely toflip recruits than Diaco (but I think highly of Diaco as well) - but it still doesn't lead to BCS in year 2 for either of them

Addazio is many things Spaz was not:

* Driven
* Energetic
* Direct
* Not fearful of setting high expectations
* Knows the head coach is responsible for recruiting and excels at it
* Excellent Motivator
* Cares about selling the program to the community
* Will not schedule BC's practice schedule around the Hingham HS baseball schedule

I'm pretty sure you just cut-and-pasted that from Steve Lively's pamphlet on Gilbride. You know shit is fucked up when that looney tunes motherfucker is better skilled at hiring coaches than the fool hired to do just that.

Most of these were true of Spaz before he was crushed under the weight of the head job. Granted Addazio has HC experience, but only two years and not at a BCS program.

I really hope I'm wrong and you're right....but I doubt it.

To my lynch mob of fellow posters - (beside the rational ones like Teddy, Pedro and the under rated Matt the Eagle) - who have tried to out do each other in hysteria and hyperbole. Take a deep breath we can get through this together. This will be a strong hire.

Let's take a rational look at what has transpired since HJS declared not hiring him for BC an epic disaster.

2009/2010 in Gainsville Florida Urban Meyer announces retirement - he waffles and says he will take an indefinite leave of absence - right in the middle of recruiting season.

Florida AD who has 5 years of experience with the staff names Addazio Head Coach - effective until when and if Urban Meyer returns.

Do you think Saban, Spurrier, Myles, Mullen, Kiffen etc. may have mentioned Meyer's and the program's issues to recruits? Despite the coaching uncertainty and FUD factor spread by competing programs. Florida/Addazio brings in the #1 recruiting class in the country. Addazio named number #1 recruiter in the nation

Meyer comes back - Brantley sucks - Florida slips to 8-5. Meyer retires.

Muschamp comes in and saves the day?

No! Florida slips further to 7-5 and the Fla offense slips to #9 in the SEC (Addazio probably wasn't the sole problem that Fla fans made him out to be)

Year 1 at Temple Addazio picks up in the middle of Temple recruiting and closes Golden's recruits despite Golden flying south. Temple has #1 class in the MAC - Temple loses Muhammad Wilkerson to the Jets in the first round and a safety in the 2nd round prior to the season. Despite the losses Temple goes 9 wins - 4 losses, Best since 1979 and the only Bowl win in Temple history

Year 2 at Temple - Temple is ranked the best recruiting class in the MAC. They move to the Big East and slip to 4-7 while playing 12-14 freshman major minutes. Temple exceeds all pre-season predictions.

The people who know him best

After Addazio named interim coach Quarterback Tim Tebow estimated that the booming tribute lasted three to four minutes, perhaps the longest ovation he had been part of.

“He’s got the best leadership qualities of any coach we have on the team,” Tebow said. “He can inspire, motivate and drive people like not many people I’ve been around. I’m so excited and proud for Coach Addazio.”

Urban Meyer "Addazio is the coach who I think is most like me"

I think most rationale people would conclude his experiences over the last 3 years would make him a better coach for BC now than he would have been 3 years ago. He has the interim HC experience at FLA - He has 2 years at Temple - He is no longer a rookie HC

Spaz had no energy - Addazio has an abundance
Spaz stopped working hard - Adazzio will outwork any BC coach since Coughlin
Addazio give the program better visibility in Boston
Addazio will be the best recruiter in my BC lifetime

I think if I am choosing mob leaders I would go with Urban Meyer over HJS 2012 version (who was with Addazio - before he was violently against him) - but maybe that is just me.

Matt is too busy trying to go down on Donahue.

I will tell you that I appreciate your positive attitude on this whole situation and hope that you are correct about Addazio. I am just jaded and have zero confidence in BC football at this point so Addazio is going to have to prove it to me with some wins next year.

I'll give you a tepid amen.

Not going to lie, at first I was outraged. This reeked of Leahy being cheap. A coach BC passed over 4 years ago.

After I slept on it, do I think we found our Saban? No. But we all agree after 4 years of coach sadface, this program needed some life. Addazio brings that.

This program needs some serious upgrade in talent. For fucks sake, we hit the QB less than once per game this past season. If it wasn't so sad it would be hilarious. There is zero question he can recruit. Now there is virtually nothing comparable between recruiting at Florida and BC outside of the fact that you're looking for high schoolers to play football at a university. But he's recruited no matter where he went, including the top MAC class in both years.

This OL needs complete rebuilding. He has OL roots at major programs.

Is he the perfect coach for BC? Probably not. Is he Spaz? No. That's a lazy and inaccurate comparison.
