Ohhhhh papeldouche

Some great at bats in that inning

Funny to see David as the elder statesman

As for dickey, I think they should start rearranging based on off days in the 2nd half. Right now theyre going straight 1-5 regardless of off days, I think they should start think about skipping young/ gee to maximize dickey (always a goal in sodomy 2.0). I'm still slightly leery of pushing Santana

I want them to call up Harvey. We know what we have with Batista

They don't need a 5th starter until next Saturday.

Couldn't have put it better

Said to the ladyfriend, it's going to sound very millenial everyone gets a prize bullshit but...

The frustrating thing about this team is that they have everything you want personality wise, they're fisty, they care, they never give up, etc but reality is they (really especially the bullpen) just aren't that good.

So that was fun.

We're about a week from this thing being completely over.

That being said whenever everyone was ready to count this team out, they bounced back with authority. The problem is, they're just not that good.

Jason Bay returns from the DL, team goes 1-5 for the week. Coincidence?

Nice that Harvey is coming up. I just don't see the point of throwing Batista out there, everyone knows he sucks and he doesn't have a future with the team. OTOH, Harvey projects to be a part of the roation for the foreseeable future.

Here's Keith Law's (like him, sarcastic humor, realistic view on prospects, etc) beginning of 2012 report, #38 prospect

Harvey's strong season in Double-A showed that he's not that far away from contributing in the big leagues, but also masked some of the ongoing questions about his repertoire and command that probably push him toward a good No. 3 or average No. 2 ceiling.

He will sit 91-97 mph as a starter with good downhill plane, and his changeup is a weapon for him against both left- and right-handed hitters. His curve and slider tend to run together, and he'd probably be better off just picking one or the other and using it exclusively to avoid throwing in-between pitches that will get hammered at higher levels.

The UNC product didn't dominate Double-A like you'd expect him to based on his velocity, but a sharper breaking ball could produce those results and get him to the big leagues by the middle of this year.

Here's his midseason report on him: #30

He has four average or better pitches, with velocity that will flash plus and a pretty good changeup but without the consistent breaking ball or command to make him a potential ace.

Impressive debut for Harvey.

Kid can really throw it, lived consistently 94-98

Also did something Bay hasn't done in over 3 months, hit a double!

Also don't look at Jose's splits for the last two months. If it wasn't for what looks like an extremely unlucky April, his numbers would be a lot better this year.

True but another bright spot this season has been Ruben Tejada

He's not as dynamic nor does he have as much power but he's only 22

Reyes: 124 games, .287/.351/.435 2.1 WAR
Tejada: 79 games, .309/.352/.382 1.7 WAR (and better D according to fangraphs)

The Hanley Ramirez trade appears to have benefited both. Interesting.

Article in today's Post reporting the Mets may trade Davis and permanently shift Duda to first this offseason. I don't like it. Davis is the only power hitter on the team and won't qualify for FA before 2017. He won't command top shelf prospects in a trade. I don't get it.

Also, my 75 win projection is looking unlikely. They have to go 9-5 the rest of the way to hit it.

I don't like it either.

This was his first full year back after missing nearly all of last season plus the valley fever in the spring (what merit, or harm it causes is up for debate).

He provides above average D at 1st, can hit 30 homeruns consistently, is locked up for 5 years at a cheap rate.

I understand you need to give some to get some and they need help in the OF but this isn't a smart move.

Very NYPost esque journalism by ESPN New York citing his late night habits in conjunction with the story, which there hasn't even been a whisper of until this point.

He's worth more to the Mets than almost every other team in the league. I mean, tell me he's an integral piece in a trade to bring in a front line starter and I will pack his bags, but I don't see that happening.

I'm surprised the Post is sinking resources into a smear campaign against Davis given the Yankees are in a heated pennant race.

Would this rumored deal start immediately or not until 2014? I understand it's the nature of the beast, but I hate to see $20 million committed to a third baseman when they're 36, 37, 38 years old (ellipsis) Look at 3Bs Wright's career compares to, like Scott Rolen and Robin Ventura. Both hit the wall at 36. If Wright were in the same company as Chipper Jones, Wade Boggs and George Brett, guys who produced in their late 30s, I wouldn't care, but I think Wright is a cut below a HOFer.

Not until his current contract is up. Since all of baseball's contracts are guaranteed, you can't just tear them up like football and make a new deal.
