shockdoct {l Wrote}:Where is uconn getting the cash for an 11MM expansion to the rink and scholarships for 36 athletes (18 M/W)?
Do they have some secret donor who is diverting money from WBB?
Malloy will just raise taxes again.

This upgrade to Hockey East is going to happen, isn't it?
"That's the hope," Manuel said, "that we will have the invitation. Hopefully, it will happen sooner than later."
This month?
"Hopefully," he said. "People have said to me that you guys would help fill a void that has been here since the Whalers left [in 1997]. No slight to the Whale or anything of that nature. But bringing a high level of college hockey to Storrs and Hartford is going to be unbelievable if it happens."
"I was once the administrator for hockey under Red Berenson. I would give him a lot of credit for my love, understanding and commitment to the sport."

Friday and Saturday night games, especially later in the season, usually sell out (~8k). Sunday afternoon and weeknight games have considerably smaller crowds. The average attendance last year was 7,549, which includes--and is skewed by--the game at Fenway. The year before, the average attendance was 6,292. Those numbers are actual attendees, not tickets sold, I believe.

Don't disagree at all but 11 necessitated 12
Several problems I see that haven't been addressed:
1) Where they're playing. On campus rink sucks, downtown is way too big, apparently Gampel can't fit a rink -also I question the motivation of the students to go downtown on a Friday & Saturday night.
2) So they either need to upgrade on campus or build something, where's that $$ coming from. State of CT isn't in great shape financially, they're donors have been tapped for other projects
3) Hockey is the 3rd most popular winter sport on campus for them. At few other schools in HE (BC, UMass & PC) is it even 2nd of all sports.
We shall see.

I am sure it will be just like the Beanpot.

Starting with the 2013-14 season when Notre Dame joins the conference, all 11 teams will qualify. The top five teams will receive first-round byes with the remaining six playing on the extra weekend to determine the final three opponents for the four quarterfinal series. When Connecticut joins in 2014-15, all 12 teams will qualify, with the top four teams receiving first-round byes and the bottom eight playing for entry into the quarterfinals.
Under the new format, teams seeded fifth through eighth in the regular season will host the first-round (once Connecticut becomes the 12th team in 2014-15). The added first-round games will either be a single-elimination or a best-of-3 series, a detail that has yet to be determined.

Hate it
It's a pure money grab and completely devalues the RS
