WORLD SERIES PREDICTIONS AND MVP:

Postby BCEagle74 on Mon Oct 26, 2009 8:20 am

I had Yankees over Cubs on TOS and Yankees over Dodgers somewhere on here.

YANKEES IN 4.

CC Sabathia and Alex Rodriguez share MVP.

Hamels looks awful.

Winner gets disqualified and a nice cold Fresca!

My heart says Phillies in 7. My head says Yankees in 6. No way the Phillies get swept in this series.

Yankees in 6 games. Philly's only chance was an Angels win last night that would have forced the Yankees to burn Sabathia. Now, the Yankees can pitch him 3 times, which is a huge advantage since the Phillies' best players are all left-handed. Also, Brad Lidge will probably blow at least 2 games this series.

Hamels has looked awful, but has had sporadic lights out starts, here and there, this season. If he happens to have one in this series, and Lee catches a break, or two, this could be a good series.

Plus i'm sure pedro has another 7 innings of shut out ball in him, right?

I like Philadelphia Phillies baseball.

Lets not forget CC took an L against these same phillies last year in the postseason. I'd be very surprised to see him pitch effectively 3 times this series all on 3 days rest (if it came to that)

cc took a loss fronting a mediocre team after pitching on three days rest for a month and a half. This series he comes in well rested, but it is irrelevant, Yankees in 5. CC will beat Lee in a good game. Burnett will be mediocre, but the Yankees will drop 10-15 runs on the corpse of Pedro Martinez, before dropping another 10 spot on the abysmal Cole Hamels. I'll say Lee comes back on short rest and beats Chad Gaudin before CC snuffs out the Phuckers in game 5 while Pedro demonstrates why the NL is a complete and total joke.

Past performance means nothing now. The Red Sox dominated CC in the 2007 playoffs but got routinely owned by him this year. Quite simply, CC Sabathia is a much better pitcher now. Of course, T-Dub gave me shit for calling Sabathia an "ace" last year but I, of course, have been proven to be correct.

Yankees in 6. The Yankees inability to hit w/RISP will catch up to them against at least once, and the Phillies offense is too good not to win one game outright (I'm looking at you A.J.). The real problem for Philly is, of course, the bullpen. Lidge is a train wreck of Arthur Rhodes proportions against the Yankees.

I am actually very interested to see the "corpse of Pedro Martinez" trade mark, Angryty, pitch game 2 at Yankee Stadium. In the off chance he doesn't melt down in the first inning, like he enjoys doing, and can last a few innings, which he enjoys doing less so, stranger things than a win have happened.

Pedro is going to get absolutely murdered in Game 2. He might not even last 4 innings. His only chance is having all of the rockets off the Yankees' bats hit right at fielders. Pitchers with fastballs peaking at 91 get murdered by this Yankees' lineup.

While logic, recent history and all other tangible factors agree with you... I'm still curious to see what happens. Uncle Charlie does things that by all accounts seem completely retarded which then very often, somehow, work out very well.

edit: that 91 MPH fastball has a lot of movement on it

Oh, it definitely is an intriguing storyline. It'll be the most energetic atmosphere the New/Old Yankee Stadium has seen since 2004. The Yankees used to do a good job of fouling off Pedro's pitches when he was downright nasty in the 1998-2002 or so. Since then, he's lost about 7 mph off of his fastball, which nullifies his changeup quite a bit.

Ah night baseball for TV in November in NY.

I remember that village idiot Bowie Kuhn in 1976 in his suit coat and 3 pairs of longjohns..... while I was getting closer and closer to the warm fires of the lovely Rastafarian motherfuckers burning down the new right field upper deck for warmthw ith garbage amidst the snowflakes and brutal 10 degree wind chills.

World series is the daytme October Classic.

Oct 1-2 4 5 6 8 9.

Daytime, temperatures are 25 degrees warmer and early October.

Enjoy!

Crap, I have tickets for game 5. After last night's performance, I'm starting to think I'm going to be watching Monday Night Football instead of a game 5.

What was up with all the empty seats last night? Did the Yankees forget to advertise they were hosting a ball game or something? That place was a snooze fest last night. Maybe they had all been filled earlier with Michelle Obama's secret service detail or something, and when she (wisely) left, so did they?

Maybe the Yanks will cart Don Zimmer out tonight so Pedro can smack him around again - at least that might get the crowd riled up.

I really didn't think the Yanks would lay down like this.

Wow... Game 1 over the Yanks are dead.

Like my friend said when the pussie Dodgers won the first 2 games in 1978.

They won because of too much sunshine in our guys eyes, they won't win a game in mantown NY and then after they lose 3 in a row, they will fold in Game 6.

Yup.

Lee was sharp.

Going down 0-2 to the Phillies is much different though. Those Dodgers were pussies.

The Phils have one to give, and if tonight is the night for the Yanks to get their win, so be it. But I like our chances if this series is tied 1-1 going back to Philadelphia. It's over if we're up 2-0 after tonight.

If you beat the Yankees in Game 1 and their season relies on AJ Burnett and Andy Petite, you're in awfully good shape.

Not sure why they insisted on stretching him out for those extra outs. They way he pitched, the Phils obviously want him for 1, 4, and 7, and he isn't CC who has history of throwing on three days rest.

under normal circumstances I'd agree with you. Except the Phillies are rolling out Pedro Martinez and Cole Hammels in the next 2 games. Those 2 guys plus a shaky bullpen = disaster.

It pains me to say this since I hate the Yankees. I'll be rooting for Petey to be in '99 form tonite.
But this is what I see happening:

Game 2: Yankees 13, Phillies 6
Game 3: Yankees 12, Phillies, 4

Charlie will do things like this, they are frustrating at the time and seem completely wrong and stupid, but in the recent past he has been right with these moves a lot more than not. Plus he had 122 pitches which is only 9 more than CC for what that's worth.
