Seth Greenberg Out

According to twitter, VT is about to have a press conf.

I'll miss his whining every selection Sunday

Whoever's in charge at VT took an awfully long time to come to a decision about dumping Greenberg; this late in the season, the change is almost certain to be a bigger headache than it would have been a month ago.

Any recruits we could look at?

More coaching clowns from the ACC being fired. It's too bad because we could play with VT even when they had far superior talent because of Seth's lack of coaching ability.

This was precisely my thoughts as well. I bet they hire Chris Mooney (unless they are doing this suddenly because they got a commitment from Shaka Smart).

I'd be scared to see what a Shakha Smart led team would do to this BC team...ouch.

I'm pretty sure that all of their recruits have already signed their LOI's.

Maybe it only applies to hockey but I believe LOIs are void if the coach leaves.

I don't believe they are void, but I believe schools routinely let them out of the LOI (see Noreen, Kevin).

I for one would welcome PF Montrezl Harrell or SF Marshall Wood to our class with open arms. I know, I know... they probably don't have the basketball IQ of Donovan Jack.

Weaver, the VT AD, said he decided last week to fire Greenberg, but then he gave him only 2.5 hours notice before the announcement; Greenberg was actually hosting a recruit at the time. The whole thing reeks of incompetence all around. They owe Greenberg $1.2 million for the buyout, but the really interesting part will be what happens with the recruits. Weaver also acknowledged that his search for a new coach might be somewhat constrained by the late date -- well, duh! With a bozo like that running the show, we may have good reason to hope for continued coaching incompetence at VT.

What a Mickey Mouse operation. I'm glad that we don't have to deal with that kind of stuff at BC.

$1.2 million seems like not a lot.

Rumor that Shaka Smart is in Blacksburg tonight is BS. He's speaking at a banquet in Richmond.

Interesting name for the VT coaching job just popped up. Dell Curry.

VT has to release them from their LOI's and even if they get their release, they can't sign with an ACC school.

Well technically they can, but they would have to sit out the 2012-'13 season.

Which sucks for a guy like Montrezl Harrell, because i'm pretty sure if he wants to leave, he would have probably gone to Wake Forest or NC State.

Apparently he had 4 or 5 years left on his deal, $1.2 isn't a ton for that.

ESPN reports that Weaver "did not rule out hiring an assistant coach or a young head coach with little experience." This is a really clumsy pretense that he has much choice in the matter this late in the season, especially since he's hiring for basketball at a notoriously football-oriented school (and the way he blindsided Greenberg won't help either). Weaver's further display of ineptitude attempting to cover up his previous bumbling leaves me wondering whether to react with disdain, pity, or amusement. One could almost (but only almost) feel sorry for Greenberg having to deal with an AD like this.

They're not getting Shaka Smart. Why would he want to leave his cushy VCU job for a very mediocre VT job. If he leaves, he'll go to a baby rapist.

Well... you can cross any concerns over VaTech becoming a major threat in the ACC off your list.
