Montel Harris: Why the silence?

Postby angrychicken on Thu Apr 12, 2012 7:49 am

You would think that there would be a story, an update, or even a tweet about him returning for his final season at BC, considering that he is already the all-time leading rusher at the school. Some schools would have weekly watches on his return from injury, but, I get it, this is BC.

What's the deal with his knee? He injured it in November/December 2010. He tweaked it in limited action last season and apparently early in spring ball this year. Who is monitoring his rehab? Did the BC doctors butcher another player? What's his status for the season? This is a big story, yet we hear nothing from the Donkey Center.

Rumors have been circulating for quite a while that Montel has been looking to go elsewhere for his final year. If this happens, it should should be the final straw for the failed Spaz era at Boston College. It's one thing for a kid looking for more playing time or a bad apple looking for a new start to transfer to another school. It's unacceptable for the school's all-time leading rusher, who, by all accounts, is a good kid, to change schools. Even the thought of him considering leaving is embarrassing.

Montel has given everything he has to BC on the field and has been a great representative of the school off the field. My fear is that Spaz, Gene, and BC will once again embarrass themselves and us with their response if Montel leaves. My hope is that he stays, but whatever is going on up there, the silence is deafening.

I believe he is on track to graduate which would facilitate the Russel Wilson rule.

IMO, he's gone.

I believe he wasn't on the spring program (while others who were injured were). Also there was no mention on him for the season ticket renewal form when they touted the experience coming back on offense, including other RBs by name. You'd think they would include BC's all time leading rusher.

It'll be fascinating to see how the merrymen spin this one.

OK, so means he needs to finish this semester's classes to graduate, which would explain why he hasn't left school already.

I agree that he's gone, I'm just trying to understand the timeline and predict how Gene and Spaz will spin this. AC is right, the silence is deafening, and there is no possible response from Gene and Spaz that won't embarrass us other than "We failed to put Montel in the best possible position for success and he wishes to move on. We understand and wish him the best."

Frankly, I like Montel and wish him the best, but I'm tired of hearing about this. He's not Russell Wilson, I'll be shocked if anyone gives him a look with his injury history. Great player, but his time is over - he probably wouldn't even be a contributor on this shitty BC team.

Good thing he is a smart kid with a good future ahead of him no matter what he chooses to do.

I believe it. I don't think he re-aggravated his knee in spring practice. He quit the team.

I heard that last year. That said, I hope so, just not expecting it. It will be almost two years in between hits. Even fully healthy, there's a long way for him to go to get close to where he was.

Look I hate Spaz with the passion of 10,000 suns. I just think this whole Montel thing is overstated. Thousand Yard Rusher Montel ain't walking through that door.

To me, this is a crusade without an agenda.

If he leaves because of Spaz, this should be the final nail in the Spaz coffin.

of course, since he's the best coach we've had in the past 15 years, it won't be but it should.

p and s. fuck spaz, fuck gene, and and a special fuck you to the merrymen that support the two of them.

MH has to consider whether he has any shot at the NFL and take it from there. If can catch on with a school with a good OL (not BC anymore) that will give him the ball then he should go for it. After the injuries and god knows what else in Spazland I'm sure FB isn't fun for him. looks like the two best players on the team left as soon as they could, don't blame either. Thats why I think it's going to be tough to match last year's 4-8 (even though Montel didn't get much time on the field). What areas are stronger? None really. What areas are weaker, ummm, LB and DL, everything else is kind of status quo, the two best or at least most experienced OL are gone too. 2-10

Wrong. Every college football team gets better at every position every year. IB told me.

Also, MH isn't coming back to this team. Would you get off the lifeboat and back on to the :titanic ?

Why? Because of the cast around him or because of the knee? His knee injury wasn't the type that kills a career.

I don't know if we are stronger at any position, but the only position we are clearly weaker is LB.

Jags recruit = bad seed
Spaz can't help injuries
He is past his prime anyway
Better RBs on the roster
Only all-time leading rusher because he had a ton of carries
Gets run down from behind by LBs
Diane English is a dirty pirate doctor

At least I hope he comes back, we need something positive! But he doesn't owe BC anything. If he has a better opportunity elsewhere or if he just doesn't want to risk getting hurt playing for a team that might not win more than 3 games who can blame him.

I wouldn't blame him for leaving, Audie, but what does it say about the state of the program when the school's all time leading rusher leaves for another school? Even you can't spin this one in a positive light.

Once again, Gene and Spaz have painted themselves into a corner.
