John Cain Carney

Anyone know the deal with him?

Odd that he got 5 minutes in the Miami game and hasn't seen any action all year.

He didn't do anything of note (took 1 shot and missed badly) but odd he was thrown into this game without seeing the floor in any others.

I have no idea what Donahue was thinking.

He did have a nice assist though.

My thought was that he's the type of player that had low D1/D3 offers and decided to walk on for Donahue but I honestly have no idea.

Without Heckmann and Cahill, Don is playing a bit with the minutes.

I talked to some of the players the day before, and they informed me Cain Carney was playing because Heckmann was out and they needed someone that can defend inside decently like Heckmann could. I don't remember Cain Carney doing bad on defense.

Makes sense, Cain Carney is listed at 6'7... there really isn't a true back up "4"/power forward for Anderson. Donahue has settled with Clifford and Caudill splitting (not 50-50) the center minutes and I don't think he is going to play them on the floor together. As you mentioned, Heckmann was playing some of those minutes, but obviously he is out. Odio was picking up minutes at the 4 spot and hasn't done much to distinguish himself, so if Cain Carney has shown in practice he can play decent D, give the kid a couple of minutes.

Wasn't odio in at the same time? I'm just as confused as I was during the game

Odio Moton Caudill and Rubin all got sent in at the same time and it was awful. Cain Carney came in a bit later; I think Odio was still out there.

I agree that Cain Carney looked alright on defense. I didn't notice any glaring mistakes.

Cain Carney gave up a wide open dunk when he got lost of defense. I'll be honest with you, he should not be playing at all on this level.
