The Red Sox are regressing with their moves and the stupidity does not stop. Not resigning Papabon is a big mistake and then not signing a reliable closer like Heath Bell after losing Pap is ludicrous. Theo, Cherington, etc. are amazingly GM's who have made bad moves or the lack of making good transactions contunues the Sox mediocre front office.
Next, they should have resigned Victor Martinez as the catcher, now they have 2 shitty catchers who can't hit and 1 is too old at this point and only good as a bench player or an occasional backup catcher in Tek. The other catcher is what you get and what you pay for, a mediocre catcher who can't hit consistently or at best an average catcher at best.
The signing of Lackey did not thrill me when they could have gone after more reliable starting pitchers on the market at the time of his signing.
If they think Bard is the closer, then so be it. He has not proven it ever and his meltdown in the setup role contributed to the Sox September swoon.
Bobby V. sounds nice but not sure he is the man. Dale Sveum did not light my fire either when he was a candidate and neither was the other no name candidate.
In short, I don't expect much improvement from the Sox next year with their holes in the starting pitching, bullpen and everyday lineup.
There are other moves like Crawfod but I won't get into that yet.
