And what are the odds that one of the two unnamed players name rhymes with Tris Tronger?

Sean Avery was arrested early this morning for battery on a police officer. What are the chances he lost the fight?

Matt Bradley confirming what we already knew about the Caps, Boudreau and its locker room. And OJ, Matt Bradley was a guy that used to play for the Caps before signing with Florida this offseason. I know he'd have been a tough one for you.

As someone who spends a lot of time in that locker-room, Id buy what Matt Bradley is selling here. Semin is a joke. The guy still uses a translator and has been in the NHL for 5+ years.

Have you guys seen the new white nets they're using in Washington, St. Louis and Philadelphia behind the goal? They look absolutely awful. Everything looks blurry when you're sitting behind them.

No better place to put this but Ben Smith just got knocked out in a preseason game, a shoulder to the head in open ice.

Did not look good at all.

It's scary if you watch the video, you can see him get knocked out and his face hit the ice, terrible hit on a great BC guy.

It looked downright nasty.

Five minutes into the third period of the exhibition game against the Detroit Red Wings, defenseman Brendan Smith hit Blackhawks forward Ben Smith in the head with his shoulder as Smith raced toward the goal.

Ben Smith crumbled to the ice, where he lay face down for several minutes. A scuffle ensued, and Brendan Smith was ejected for exactly the type of hit the NHL is trying to eliminate

“Both referees said that’s a classic example of what we’re talking about. That’s the illegal hit,” Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. “It was pretty black and white. I’m not happy about it.”

Smith’s status is unknown, but he likely will undergo more concussion tests Thursday. To make matters worse, winger Viktor Stalberg left the game with a leg injury, which Quenneville characterized as “probably not good, either.”

“That’s just a hit you have to get rid of,” Patrick Kane said. “Hopefully, he’s OK. I’m not sure what his status is, but hopefully that’s a big suspension. The league’s got to take care of that hit.”

It’s a very tough break for Ben Smith, who scored the tying goal Wednesday and was on the path of securing a roster spot.

“It’s just scary to see a guy go down like that,” Jonathan Toews said. “If it was a cheap hit, hopefully they take care of that the right way. It’s unbelievable. They’re cracking down, and it’s still happening.”

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock blames (sorta) Ben Smith:

The Smith-on-Smith hit delivered Wednesday night almost immediately became a trending topic in the NHL, and it's sure to cause a stir over the next few days. [Said Mike Babcock:] "I don't doubt his shoulder hit his head ... is there any responsibility on the puck-carrier, toe-dragging, sliding sideways, to look after himself? Is there or no? It doesn't appear like there is anymore, is there? You come across the middle toe-dragging like this (has head down, looking at puck), jumping up, and you get dinged ... and I'm not saying our guy isn't guilty, because the shoulder hit his head ... you better not put yourself in those situations is what I would say."

It looked like the Wings' Smith was going to go high regardless but Ben didn't do himself any help with that move. Definitely a suspendable hit but there is some gray area in the language for those head-to-shoulder hits, as opposed to the shoulder-to-head hits. I didn't think it was a cheapshot, more of a lazy and careless attempt at an open ice hit that went about as bad as it could possibly be.

Looks like Cam Atkinson has won a spot in the top 6 for the mighty Blue Jackets if the little Yahoo fantasy blurb about Derrick Brassard losing his spot to him is to be believed. Going to be an interesting team this year and their top 6 should put up a ton of points now that Nash has a legitimate center in Carter and there's some offensive talent on the back end with James "Blow me, Avery" Wisniewski and Grant Cltisome (hehehehe...more like Clitmore amiright?). Who knows what the deal is with Mason as he'll probably be the X factor in determining if they get a playoff berth or not.

ESPN Insider is pushing a rumor of Ray Whitney to the Bruins. They're speculating that if it were to happen, it would like be shortly after the start of the season.

Yeah I don't really see where Whitney fits unless they really don't think Caron will contribute as the third line winger. Pouliot is going press box fodder at this point and I would actually like to see Caron get another chance. He was good in spurts last year and then slowed down and didn't do much in Providence, as with the rest of the team.

I'm going on record now to say that the Bruins won't be very good this year. Too fat. Therefore, OJ can't pull the "I told you so" when the Bruins are ousted in the first round and the Capitals* make it to the second round.

Figure he'd get...what...about 4 annually as a UFA? I like him as a player, and I expect him to up his scoring a bit now that he's playing with Begeron and Marshmont.
