Indeed. In the few instances over the last few years that I've found myself there, I've usually spent about 45 minutes in the sun then walked across the street to one of the bars with a roofdeck. The bars are much more pleasant than the beach. I think people like it because they think it's closer to Boston than a lot of nicer beaches that are further south or north, except it isn't really due to its peninsula-ing.

Its a valid point and one that should be brought up. You can complain because you donate. You have a vested financial stake in the program. Many of us will not donate again until Spazerelli is gone. I gave more in Jags's 2 years then the 5 years before that, but even then the schools sees our money through ticket sales and every game costs me a small fortune on concessions, new crap at the bookstore etc.

I didn't mean to suggest that you CAN'T complain if you don't donate. That is akin to tomcat (who stupidly supported Spaz so much that he was predicting an 11-win season) saying that you had to play football at BC to be able to comment about BC football on a message board.

What I am suggesting is that someone who does not support the program has no standing to complain about the manner in which I support the program. Look... I'm a hypocrite. I still bought a seat and donated to the Flynn Fund this year. While I dropped 5 season tix and cut my donation by 90%, I still gave and bought a seat (though I gave a buddy who still attends games the tix and the accompanying parking pass). I won't go to another game so long as Spaz is there. But, I don't mind donating a token amount because (a) I still support the student-athletes and (b) I feel it gives me a seat at the table from which to gripe.

Herzy is a fan of Spaz and Gene. They are the guys who looked after his son for 5 years (2 of which were very difficult). That's fine... that's the bias he brings to the table. In comparison, I'm a fan of Boston College... the institution. As such, I am also a fan of the students who will soon join my ranks as fellow alums. Who I owe no allegence to are the hired guns who are paid MILLIONS to head-up BC's athletic teams. When these transient professionals are woefully under-performing, I feel it is every alum's OBLIGATION to object... as our future fellow alumni simply deserve better. And, our university has better ways in which to expend its resources.

Simply... Gene DeFilippo and Frank Spaziani are not Boston College. They are simply well-paid proxy-holders who are acting on our behalf. Their continued representation is always at our whim.

That morano poster whose post is above loves Spaz, by the way if he read this board his monocle would not be long for this world. There are a few others like that, I believe they are mostly very elderly - like alive during WWI. The mcrimmins poster has seen the light. BCrulz claims BC had a bad offense with Matt Ryan in '07 so he is a retarded person who's opinion is less valued than the others. The Legrands of the world, I get the impression aren't happy with Spaz but seem to be of the ilk that think it is outside the role of a sports fan to complain about performance in such sport.

As domingo posted, despite the near consensus that Spaz is embarrassingly overmatched, the merry majority still caveat everything with "realizing the team is young," "even though Jags didn't recruit for 2 years," "despite the Jags attrition," etc. I guess its improvement over when somehow after watching the Clemson '09 game they came away with the conclusion that Spaz could possibly be the guy to lead BC. Also they had this turn back to maybe Spaz is turning things around after Maryland and immediate reversal after FSU which was just silly.

One thing that I guarantee will happen, is if Spaz is not fired after a 2-11ish season, that board will forget how bad the season was by roughly February and there will again be sycophants praising the brilliance of the cushion and cursing the name of the spread in favor of "three yards and a cloud of dust."

Why does Boston College have such an institutionalized tendency to hire bad coaches-and then spend wasted years making excuses for his performance? Every school has a bad hire, but the tolerance is usually limited and fans demand change. A large percentage of BC fans, on the other hand, exhibit a masochistic desire to defend the the likes of Henning,Spaz and long after the passage of their expiration dates. Chlebeck is the only case I can recall where an inept coach was quickly shown the door.
