Ads under the ice?

Postby AdamBC on Fri Aug 19, 2011 11:09 am

According to page 19 of the ad sales pitch, there may be ads under the ice this year in Conte:

If the ad space sells, I suppose the basketball floor and the football field will follow in due course, unless placing and removing ads on those surfaces proves too difficult.

Maybe that will pay for air conditioning.

Thanks for your question Endless Mike.

*Gene on 2/27/07* Unfortunately, when Conte was built, it was not air conditioned. We have, however, had one fogged-out game in my 10 years here at Boston College. While air conditioning Conte is important, we have other projects with equal importance and we will get to it as soon as we can.

*Gene on 7/29/08* It is a shame that Conte Forum was not air conditioned when it was built in 1989. It would have been much more effective and much less expensive to have done it at that time. Our plans call for us to air condition Conte Forum during the summer of 2010. It is a huge, huge cost, but is certainly necessary for our teams and for use of Conte by the University community.

*Gene on 11/11/09* The AC should have been added to Conte Forum when it was built. It would have been very inexpensive to install it at that time. The cost for installing air conditioning will be somewhere between $5.5 and $6 million. At this point, we have other higher priorities than to spend $6 million to put air conditioning into Conte Forum.

BTW it's getting time for another of those chats...

So he counts the BU game as fogged out but not the awesome North Dakota game that ended in a 0-0 tie because a game is apparently official after 2 periods?

Edit: Nevermind, forgot that Muse was the starting goalie for the North Dakota game and not Schneider meaning he was correct when he responded.

Does the NCAA actually allow ads on the playing surfaces?
Well, when I see five weirdos, dressed in togas, stabbing a man in the middle of the park in full view of a hundred people, I shoot the bastards, that's *my* policy!

Why not, as long as the players don't share in the ad money? Player amateurism is a fundamental tenet (or fundamental fiction), but no one (outside Division 3, at least) is pretending at this point that college athletics is a purely academic enterprise. How many ads are there on the video screens in the arena? Using the playing surface is only a short step from there -- soft copy to hard copy, one might say.

I was just thinking, if that was the case, Autzen Stadium would replace all the hash marks, and the midfield logo with swooshes.

Agganis is a great place to watch a game, but absolutely everything is sponsored.
