Cincinnati should be one of the the top 3 recruiting areas for BC. For all the things I didn't like about TOB he did establish a presence for BC with St. X and to a lesser extent Moeller. Tribble was also from Cincinnati but I believe he went to a public high school.

I'll shoot: New England and New Jersey/tri-state area. I would also add Chicagoland to the list, but it will be admittedly tough to pull top-end guys out of there.

Western PA has also been a good recruiting area for BC (hello Matt Ryan) and should continue to be a focus.

Matt is from the Philly suburbs.

Fair enough. I'll amend and say PA in general.

I agree, although that part of PA would fall more in line with tri-state area recruiting that we already do (not that it really matters how we classify it). I will add that with the increasing uncertainly at PSU, BC will have a bit of an opportunity to make some inroads. In the past, Central PA and Western PA kids were very rarely coming to BC if they had a PSU offer.

Although western PA is a more talent heavy area than eastern PA, BC has done a lot better in the eastern half. Exton(where Ryan's from) is a Philadelphia suburb and is eastern PA, Andre Williams, Snee, Betancourt, Bowen, Coleman, Herzy, Purvis, Akins are all from the eastern half

Ramsey is from Western PA so is Crane and Wetzel.

edit actually crane is from central.

Northern NJ and Eastern PA. In deference to HJS, Massachusetts and specifically the ISL #17.

BC should be recruiting northern Ohio especially St. Edwards and St. Igantius. Ton of catholic high schools in the area and I think BC has definite appeal.

Voltz up to nine offers

Offensive lineman Dan Voltz (Barrington, Ill./Barrington), one of the top juniors in the state of Illinois, has been a starter at right tackle since the beginning of his sophomore season. He led the way for his team's fine running game during his junior season as Barrington finished with a 7-3 record.

Recruiters are well aware of Voltz and his potential. He has scholarship offers from Northwestern, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Arizona, Cincinnati, Boston College and Western Michigan.

"I've been to Illinois, Wisconsin, Northwestern and Iowa," Voltz said. "I'm visiting Michigan State on Sunday and I plan to visit Notre Dame sometime next month."

Voltz has no plans to select a college anytime soon.

"Right now I'm wide open," Voltz said. "I want to get to know as many schools and coaches as possible."

Two sticking out to Rashad

Linebacker Shakeel Rashad (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) is only a junior, but several schools have already offered the 6-2, 220-pounder a scholarship.

"North Carolina, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Central Florida, Maryland, Boston College, Duke and Louisville have all offered," Rashad said. "I've had some schools tell me they are recruiting me as a defensive end but most are saying linebacker and that's the position I prefer to play in college."

Right now, Rashad has two schools that stick out -- North Carolina and South Carolina.

Gotta love those two schools...at least they share lots of suspensions and jail time between them.

I'm just waiting to hear how he loves the academics at both.

Also, are there going to be any sanctions against UNC? It seems like what happened there was as bad as at USC, if not worse. Between nothing happening here and the joke that was the Cam Newton saga, I'd be really pissed if I were a USC fan.

UNC is a very good school from what i've heard. nearly impossible to matriculate to if you are from out of state.

ATL posted this on his site but John Loughery is going to prep a year. I know we have a few offers out at QB but if he shows a step forward he could be a good guy to offer. Also, he'd be someone likely to want to come here regardless of what the depth chart looks like.

It is and, generally speaking, it is. I went to HS with a couple kids who got into Ivy League schools (Harvard in one case) and got rejected by UNC. That said, it's a lot easier to get in from in-state (the school is required by law to take something like 80-85% of each incoming class from the state of NC; by comparison UVa, another very good public school that is also notoriously hard to get into from out of state, only has to take 2/3)....AND, it's still a large state school so there's plenty of room to hide barely-literate football and basketball players.

Trust me, UVa's instate student body is much higher than 2/3's. I would say it is closer to 85% to 90%. I would also say UNCs is similar.

Additionally, I think UVA's out of state admit rate is somewhere in the 6-7% range.

Anyway, Philly's post was referring to the required percentage, not the actual percentage.

Not particularly relevant except in the "don't trust GreenvilleEagle when he says trust me" sense, UVA is at 70% in-state enrollment, 30% out of state. Though there is proposed legislation to require 75% of students to be instate admissions. http://centreville.patch.com/articles/hugo-proposes-law-requiring-75-percent-in-state-enrollment-at-colleges-3

Actually per the UVA website:

69.1% Virginian, 30.9% non-Virginian
56% women, 44% men
8.6% African American or Black, 11.8% Asian American, 4.6% Hispanic/Latino
5.8% citizens of countries other than the U.S.

So good catch and obviously I stand corrected. On another note, did mommy not finger your asshole today?

TOS site reports that the recent Junior Day at BC was attended by approx 30 players. As a board are we able to guess some, or all, of the 30 Juniors that visited that day? I'll start off with the obvious taken from TOS:

RB Donta Pollack, Holy State, New Jersey
LB Ethan Gambale, Holy State, New Jersey
LB Dan Mastromatteo, Holy State, New Jersey
WR Aaron Berardino, Windsor, Connecticut
OL Tim Donahue, Howell School, New Jersey
OL Frank Taylor, Archbishop Wood Catholic, Pennsylvania
ATH Devin Fuller, The Old Tappan, New Jersey

North Carolina mandates that at least 84% of the UNC students be NC residents. Getting in from out of state is very tough - in-state not as much. UVA mandates minimum of 66% of the student be from VA. (This info was true as of 3 years ago and may have changed in the interim)

No, apparantly (sic) they are not.

Holy Spirit, Howell High School and Northern Valley Regional HS/ Old Tappan are the names of the schools that they go to.
