Yes - the entire Texas athletic department should be fired. I agree.

I also love the fact that ForBostEagle or whoever this is brings up lacrosse as an example of Gene's success. :pickle

7 top ten finishes, 11 top 15, a national championship, the NCAA record for most consecutive weeks ranked...looks exactly like a BC football resume to me.

While I agree hansen's statement was somewhat extreme and absolute, Gene is an embarassment. I like the Donahue hire, but he is destroying the football program. And he does not get credit for the success of the other programs.

It should say something that the program he's most involved with is in the worst shape

I'm going to say that this post from Crosby is one of my all time faves. Pretty impressive work for post #20.

Hey look... there are stupid people posting in this thread. Haha... they're stupid. Oh yeah, just to be clear, when I talk about stupid people, I mean not me, because I'm not stupid.

Sure, because it's not stoopid at all to take his statement about one program and put it on the entire athletic department, then take his statement about immediate review after 5 losses and change it to immediate firing after 5 losses. So what IS the argument at hand, genius?

Yea I mean we're only in a "fire gene" thread - I guess it's completely irrational to equate "review" to "fire". My bad, I'll leave my brain at home before posting here next time.

This makes sense - he gets all the blame and none of the credit, because it's convenient for your argument. At least you all are very consistent in your stupidity.

See this quote thing? Unless otherwise specified it means you're addressing that exact quote. Do you get a yearly "review" at your job? Do you get "fired" every time you have a "review"? This public service was brought to you by your local Comcon.

I gave him credit for the Donahue hire. I'd give him credit for the Jags hire if he didn't end up fucking that up so badly. What else has he done that should garner him any praise? And what's your counter-argument if you have one?

There are three good things Gene has done as far as I can see:

1. Hire Donahue. Seems great so far. We'll see what happens when other programs come calling and Gene starts making ridiculous ultimatums.
2. Big East-ACC move. Great move for BC Athletics.
3. Hire Jags. We all know how that ended - Gene made a stupid ultimatum, fired him, obliterating our football program in the process and painting himself into the corner of hiring a massively unqualified "BC Guy" who is continuing to drive our football team further and further down the drain.

Gene's tenure hasn't been an unmitigated disaster, but he has really fucked up the football program. I'm not sure that we can land a good coach even when Gene finally wakes up and fires Spaz. Who wants to work for someone who meddles this much?

The ACC move will cement his legacy at the school. Getting us out of that donkey load of a conference into one that will be around for more than 10 years and triples our income cannot be understated.

He gets zero credit for the hockey program, the only credit he gets is for keeping his grubby hands off of it.

That being said football is the money maker and it's going the wrong way. Season tickets, donations, and wins are all in decline and considering this was one of the easiest schedules we have it isn't looking good.

As I've said, GDF painted himself into a corner. It's pretty apparent that Spazoo and Topoo aren't getting us anywhere. As said above, donations & tickets are down big time. He isn't going to make a move (maybe a meeta-ball w Spazoo?*) at OC because Spaz isn't here for more than 2-3 more years. And he won't pay for a hot-shot OC "coach in waiting type".

What's the problem ForBostonEagle, the echo too loud?

Uhhh move to the ACC, improving all the teams on campus. Soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, women's basketball, tennis, sailing etc etc etc. I guess we forget that in 2006 we were ranked #6 over the last decade for football/basketball performance. Everything about our sports program has improved since he was hired, except men's lacrosse. You are going to tell me that he's really been a net negative? Get real.

Why do you keep saying lacrosse? Is this a gag?

Also, 4 years ago we were ranked well in overall football/basketball performance over a decade? How many football conference championships did we win over that period. If you're happy with the football program over the last decade, you are a rah-rah and can GTFOMAM.

Shocker, you're retarded.

2002: 9-5
2003: 8-5
2004: 9-3
2005: 9-3
2006: 10-3
2007: 11-3
2008: 9-5
2009: 8-5
2010: 7-5

Yea man, what a "decline." Seems pretty steady to me actually, and to most objective people with half a brain. Oh and for donations?
Over the past 10 years our annual athletic donations have increased significantly. In 1998, athletic donations totaled approximately $3.6M. Just 10 years later, in 2008, athletic donations totaled $21M, a 10% increase from the previous year's record.
So last year was the first year down from the previous - oh man, really far too, down to 17.5million in a horrible economy. Clearly gene has lost his touch and is moving our program backwards. I guess we'll just ignore all logic and fact so we can fit your awesome agenda that makes no sense. Keep on keepin on. BC athletics, totally on the decline.

This year I'd trade with Virginia Tech. They're playing in a BCS bowl, something that we'll never do with Spaz at the helm.

when i said "program review" that is exactly what i mean. i chose my words carefully there. i don't necessarily believe he should be fired yet but this season was a HUGE disapointment considering the pathetic schedule we had both in- and out-of-conference. 5 losses this year was unacceptable for this program.

i'm sure year Spaz has a review but i think this one should be a little more contentious. if i was :pickle, i would want to know what are :spaz3 plans for turning this team around. i'd ask why he made the Shinskie mistake and if he learned something from it. there are probably a lot more outstanding questions that some of you who know football better than me would want answered but i will leave it there.

bottom line every year BC should be competing for the Atlantic division crown and should come close. anything less is unacceptable. ideally, the team should be aiming for the BCS but a division title is a reasonable goal to shoot for every year regardless of graduation, injuries, etc. that probably means no more than 2-3 losses in a given year.

Agreed, 11-9-8-7 isn't declining, you're right.

Sure donations were great when Jags was here. I said donations are down and you quote a stat from 2 years ago as your evidence against it?
