That attitude sucks. I bet yoou haven't clicked on an ad on this website since 1992. What's the matter? Are Sperry Topsiders not "Big" enough for you? Will you only click on a Nike shoe ad because that's what USC wear?

apbc12 {l Wrote}:Don't kid yourself. The SEC is the only conference in the country that would even consider turning down ND if they wanted to join. That said, the financial incentives ND used to have to stay independent are rapidly shrinking. The NBC deal isn't worth that much (if at all) more than major conference teams are getting from conference TV deals, and unless they make a BCS game, the bowl money isn't significant, either.
Go Eagles, and Go Mark Herzlich.

apbc12 {l Wrote}:Indeed. But ND keeps 100%. If BC goes to the Orange Bowl, it keeps a fraction. That's essentially the last financial incentive ND has to stay independent. They'll eventually join. Not in the near future, but certainly in the foreseeable future. There may always be non-monetary incentives for independence, but when there are monetary incentives to join, it'll happen.
NBCSports.com {l Wrote}:The Irish won't receive a full share when it qualifies for a BCS game. Instead, Notre Dame will get get the equivalent to what a second team from a conference would get, which is currently $4.5 million. Then, in years in which the Irish do not play in a BCS game, they will receive $1 million from the BCS, about the share a non-participant from a BCS conference would receive once its conference divides it up.

The television money with NBC is not as significant as it used to be, now that the Big Ten and the SEC have signed mega deals with BTN, CBS, and ESPN. Also the BCS now pays out the same to Notre Dame as it does to schools from the 6 major conferences. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of non-monetary reasons to remain independent.
Also, BC's home fan support is nothing extraordinary either.
HJS {l Wrote}:If BC goes to the Orange, it keeps nothing. In the NBE, we would keep a fraction. Duke has made the same amount off of football since expansion as has VTech. Vandy has made the same amount as Florida. Northwestern the same amount as Ohio State. If the Fighting French see a drop in revenue, they will consider the security offered by a conference. At the end of the day, their "independence" is just upsurd. Under Lou Holtz and Davie, it was passed off as being too restrictive because ND wanted to be able to play the best teams in the country and not be constrained to just playing the crappy BigTen teams. Under Charlie (and it really began under Willingham), the justification is that playing a BigTen conference schedule would be a serious impediment to Notre Lame ever being in the conversation for a BCS bowl bid.

Actually, it was UCF. But it looks likes BC is struggling with even FSU and Gameday coming to town.
