flyingelvii {l Wrote}:Holy hell this is the most boring game ever, even with OT. It's like two pre-lockout teams playing dump and chase. A ton of clutching and grabbing as well.

Thank goodness that game is finally over. It's a shame somebody had to win. Now a team that can actually skate and score goals, the Canucks, are on tv.

Vancouver didn't exactly light it up offensively either last night. Whoever said "if the Pens get Crosby and Malkin back" is out of their mind. Malkin had knee surgery in February, I still think there's a 0% chance he plays in the playoffs.

I think you're right, but Pittsburgh has played exceptionally well without them. Fleury is a notoriously streaky goalie; he he gets hot, they could still be a force when Sid gets back. I was never sold on Tampa and their roughly even goal differential in the regular season, and I actually think it's a good matchup for the Pens. What Blysma has done this year is remarkable.

On this note, this is how I'd rate the coaches in the Eastern Conference:

1) Blysma
2) Tortorella (excluding the fact that he never stays very long in any place because he pisses off his employer)
3) Julien
4) Laviolette
5) Ruff
6) Martin
7) Boucher
8) Boudreau

Thoughts? Looking over the list, there are a lot of good coaches, but no real great coaches. 2 to 6 are very close.

Boudreau isn't the worst coach in the Eastern Conference. Julien is also nowhere near #3. They played completely difference styles and I really don't think either of them have any idea what's going on. They're not Paul Hewitt bad, but more in the Purnell/Haith range.

To clarify my opinion on Julien, I'm likewise unconvinced that he is any where near a championship-caliber coach. If he fails to make the Eastern Conference Finals this year, he will probably find himself on the hot seat. Still...I don't think the B's are anywhere near the most talented in the conference. To me, it's impressive that that they're on the verge of getting out of the first round of the playoffs for the third year in a row (not an easy feat). To contrast, Boudreau has far more talent to work with in Washington as does Laviolette in Philly, yet these teams didn't do much to separate themselves from Boston in the regular season (in fact, Boston had a winning record against both). The fact that Boston has been top-3 in the conference in goals in two of the last three years despite not having a ton of pure scorers tells me that they bring it every night, and frankly most hockey teams don't skate hard consistently.

After the game, DeBoer said Tortorella was either a "hypocrite" or had "short-term memory loss," and referenced a game back in December when Tortorella started both Rupp and Prust in New Jersey.

"I think Peter needs to jog his memory, as far as the starting lineups that I've put in in his building," said Tortorella, who started his top line of Artem Anisimov, Derek Stepan and Marian Gaborik in the Rangers' last visit to Newark, on March 6. "And really, basically just shut up."

"I get put into a position when he puts a lineup out, that I'm not sure what's going to happen if I put my top players out, so I have to answer the way I need to answer. Just look at the two lineups and some of the things he's done through the games here," Tortorella said. "I don't want to coach his team here, but just shut up."

The Bruins used to start their 4th line pretty much every game last year. I can't recall what they do this year.

Listening to teh schmoozer tonight, Torts went off -didn't see the hit but absolutely love the commentary

“It’s one of the most arrogant organizations in the league. They whine about this stuff all the time and look what happens,” Tortorella said. “Imagine if it happened to one of their fucking superstars.”

Always hated Orpik. Always came up small in the clutch. Would love to see him sitting in a wheel chair next to Travis Roy.

He was nails when they won the Cup a few years back. Was it him that took the puck off the face and missed like two shifts? Either him or a BU guy, can't remember exactly.

It was the BU guy who was paired with Scuderi. Scuderi was a fucking vice lock in that playoff run. He choked the life out of the Wings top line. It was a fucking travesty that he wasn't on the Vancouver Olympic team.

No discipline for Brooks, Torts fined $20k.

As Endless******74:FJS said, eastern playoffs should be fun

Edit: wow, even fagg0t embedded in a string of characters gets flagged

They haven't been giving out suspensions or anything for knee to knees this year so no surprise there. Hal Gill put Peverly out 5 weeks and got nothing, not even a penalty in the game.

I am hoping Choke Orpik gets a skate to the neck and bleeds out. Either that or I want the Penguin charter to do a KHL bellyflop with no survivors--especially and including Mario the Cancer Boy. What a loathsome fucking franchise In a 5th rate city.

The best is how Mario got nothing for calling the NHL a garage league. Yet Torts gets 20k for this. I hate pretty much all Atlantic teams more or less equally, subject to the ebbs and flows of the season (Scott Hartnell has softened my Flyers hatred this season...guy is a real life version of Tom Hanks in Big and a great chirper), but it was funny to see the NHL still protecting Mario long after his career was over.

Tortorella gave 2 good back to back interviews on NY sports radio yesterday. Loved hearing him call out reporters fro "stupid" questions and just to fill their twitter.

The shot-blocking controversey is dumber than an average Rutgers fan. However, the window of the players not yet being sick of Tortorella yelling at them incessantly is probably closing soon.

Gaborik with rotator cuff surgery, out up to 6 months.
