My college roommates and I usually like to make a return trip to Boston for a weekend of drinking. Arrive on Thursday, full Happy Hour at Roggies and then the Hockey game on Friday before going out. Followed up with a matinee hoops game before again heading out to some bars.

Unfortunately the schedule is not too kind this year for pulling off a 2 sport weekend.

Anybody have any idea what the deal is with 1/14? Seems we have both basketball and hockey home games scheduled.

I was thinking of Northeastern hockey on Friday night and NCst on Saturday, 11/12.

They did the 2 sports in 1 day at Conte I believe 2 years ago (hockey game was against Maine I want to say).

Basketball at 1 and hockey at 7 since, the ACC usually has this 24 hour rule of the floor being down that BC hasn't always followed.

Sidenote, I think it was last year where we had a home hockey game on Friday night and home basketball saturday afternoon vs. FSU and the FSU basketball team was at the hockey game -they probably thought they were in the twilight zone.

A lot of people are doing that, should be a fun weekend.

Edit: Another point. As a heads up last year BC sold out about half of its hockey games including some that usually don't (PC, UML, etc.) so for those coming to NU might want to buy your tickets early.

Yeah, I have been trying to avoid going up to football games. While I can just laugh about our ineptitude at the bar, attending the games usually end with me storming out of the game drunkenly dropping a slew of f bombs at spaz for running a draw play up the middle on 3rd down in the 4th Qtr down 2+ TDs..in front of bunch of kids.

Then again, I am a BC fan and will most likely be there for the game to send off the players.

I went to the weekend in February last year where we just embarassed Umass on Friday and beat VT on Saturday.

What about the first weekend of December? Hockey has a home and home with BU Friday and Saturday night, and Basketball hosts BU on Saturday afternoon. You could conceivably go to three games.

Boston College coach Jerry York e-mailed Lucia about a fourth-year scheduling agreement. One year, the Gophers would head East and play Boston College and Boston University the same weekend, Lucia said, the next year, Boston College would play at Mariucci, then the Gophers would play at BU and BC and, in the fourth year, BU would visit the Gophers.

Re: 2011-12 Schedule

Postby claver2010 on Wed Apr 11, 2012 7:25 am

Some exciting news on scheduling (from a poster on TOS so take it FWIW)

Talked with a friend of mine in the BCAA. Said hockey scheduling will really spring board in 2 years. There are 34 games a team can play each year.(36 with and ice-breaker)With 27 league games now,2 Beanpots and X-mas tourneys, that leaves BC with only 3 games they can play out of conference. That will all change in 2013-14.
Staring that year, Notre Dame will join hockey east. That will give the league 11 teams. Under the new hockey east schedule plan, HE teams will play each other just twice, for 20 league games. This leaves BC and all other teams with 14 non-league dates. The Beanpot and X-mas tourney will still be included. But that leaves BC with 10 non-league game each year.
Here is where it gets exciting. BC has signed or agreed to 4-year deals with North Dakota, Minnesota, Denver, Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State. BC will play 4 of these teams each year for 8 games. In 2013-14 BC win have 4 games at home against Minnesota and Michigan(2 games each). They will play North Dakota and Denver away for 2 games each. They will flip over next year, with BC going to Minnesota and Michigan. North Dakota and Denver will come here. The year after, MSU and Wisco come on and 2 teams will leave. It all adds up to BC and those 6 teams playing 8 games(4home/4away)over a 6-year period.
That will leave BC with 2 games. They have signed a 4-year extension to play Yale.(Original deal signed last year) BC recruits well in Connecticut and having a game there is good.
The other game will be considered a wild-card or freelance game. There is talk of a BU-Cornell/BC-RPI doubleheader at MSG on Thanksgiving weekend. There is also talk of the Winter Classic being in NYC the next couple of years. BC may play in a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium. Talk about playing Holy Cross.
The x-mas tournaments are also changing. BC will not play in the traditional tournaments after next year. IE, the Badger, Mariucci, Denver classic. They have signed a 3-year deal to be the hockey east rep at the Naples classic in Naples, Florida. Maine was the HE team the last 5 years.
There is also talk of condensing the season. Starting in the middle of October. Plus playing through weekends in December. Hoops does this, why not hockey. Will decrease the down time in the middle of the season.
