Looks like it is finally happening.

Assuming when Penn State goes full D1, they would join as well.

This would be exciting, unfortunate for the WCHA, but it seems that they won't suffer too much. It's funny, I was actually wondering why the Big 10 didn't have a hockey conference as well.

Should Hockey East use this as an opportunity to reinvent itself by grabbing some teams from the impacted conferences? Any thoughts as to what would be a good new conference comprised of HE and other teams?

Hockey East is large enough that with a 3-game series we have very little opportunity for OOC games. If HE expands then we either have no OOC games or only have 2-game series. Not a fan of that outcome.

Worse for the CCHA--they lose 3 current members to the WCHA's 2, and you have to assume that the WCHA will make up for losing Wiscy and Minnesota by raiding the CCHA--probably try to grab Notre Dame and Miami off the bat.

As for HE, I thought PSU would've been a great fit if the B10 didn't start a hockey conference, but don't see any current CCHA/WCHA teams that are a good fit.

I would prefer to keep the Hockey East the way it is right now. When we are fighting with the B10 schools for top hockey recruits, I would imagine one of our selling points has to be the limited travel time. Many of our away games are less than a 30 minute bus ride - BU, Northeastern, Merrimack, Lowell, and Harvard (when we play them). The only trips more than an hour are Maine and UVM and those would be considered short trips for the B10 schools.

THIS

I wonder if the B10 hockey would exist by itself (for obvious financial and network reasons) or go the ECAC-Ivy League Champ route?

If the HE expands (which I doubt it will unless some local teams pick up hockey, even still they might not even be invited), they would go to 12 and have teams play each other twice (adding 3 conf games).

Again I see this having minimal effect on BC.

Looking at the maps of the conferences as they currently stand, who would be a good 'fit'? Would UConn (only in HE for womens hockey) be the only natural fit? Could we kick out Merrimack for their shitty rink?

No one, which is why HE won't -no need to.

As you showed, it's a great part of HE, that everyone is within a drive (Maine to PC is a hell of a drive) of each other.

Hockey East doesn't need to expand, but, speaking theoretically, I think the most natural fit would be to poach some teams from the ECAC. None of the Ivy's but maybe RPI, Colgate, or Union. But again, there's no need for the HE to expand, this B10 move doesn't have much of an effect on us outside recruiting and I don't even think that's a big deal.

IMO this is another attempt to force Notre Dame into joining the Big10 for all sports, not to mention the TV $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!! I wonder if other Big10 ACHA programs will go the Penn State route to D1 hockey. HE is PERFECT the way it is, ok not really…take out Bertagna, Benedetto and Gravallese then we’ll talk. Chicken Little was right!!!!!!!! ACC HOCKEY IS NEXT!!!!!!!!! :bag :suicide

I lurk on USCHO's boards (it's where I learned to do my lurking here) and found it hilarious that the "college hockey world conference realignment" thread was briefly hijacked by UConn hockey fans talking about their eventual move to the Big 10.

Did the Rutgres fans remind them who owns New York?

This is a serious challenge to HE dominance. Money drives college sports and B10 is winning the money derby. The SEC may be King in Fball but the B10 is stronger across the board in the major sports.

It's pretty funny that the B10HC is going to be a real thing. I remember it being a long-running gag on USCHO. What's next, a college hockey video game? (That would be sweet, btw).

I would play it and then go on a body-checking spree because Elisabeth Hasselbeck says that's what happens when you play violent video games.

BTW BC will be on the Big 10 network this year when they go out to Minnesota
