Boston gets 2014 FF?

Postby pick6pedro on Fri Jun 11, 2010 3:54 pm

Meanwhile, the Div. 1 ice hockey committee met with NCAA officials on awarding host bids for Frozen Four events in 2013 and ’14. Boston is believed to have been selected for 2014, but no official announcement is expected until late July.

The Boston bid, co-submitted by TD Garden and Hockey East, is for either year, but 2013 would be a problem since the city would not have sufficient available hotel space due to conflicting dates with the Boston Marathon.

That means...in all likelihood...presumed favorite Pittsburgh got 2013. These are both reasonably easy locations for BC fans.

No it won't. Just wait until right before the FF and people have to either cancel or won't go because their team didn't make it and you can get tickets on like StubHub or AceTicket or other sites like that.

I'll be honest...I'm not sure I see what the mid-atlantic sites like DC and Philly bring to the table. I can understand the geographic upside of Pittsburgh, plus there's a lot of hockey payed in Western PA, but Philly seems like an odd site to. That being said, the proximity of both of these sites is a good thing for BC fans.

Have they ever done it in MSG? That would be pretty cool but I imagine it'd be difficult to work out the schedules of the Rangers and Knicks and all of the other events that go on there.

Would it be all that different than doing it at any other stadium that does NHL/NBA/concerts...these things are planned so far advance. I agree, it would be a cool spot. I wonder if anyone has ever put in a bid for MSG.

MSG would be an awesome venue….3+ days in NYC for the National Championship, someone dropped the ball on this one

MSG would be great but don't think they have ever bid for it. Chicago would be nice too.

Great call by the Herald :suicide

Obviously I'm biased but I think Philly will be an outstanding venue. There's no local team (unless you count Princeton), but it's a great hockey town. Easy drive for fans of the northeastern teams and an easy place to fly into for the western fans (the airport is an absolute abortion but it's one of the biggest in the US and has daily nonstops from all corners of the country). The arena isn't right downtown and while there are a couple bars it's not surrounded by them like arenas are in a lot of other cities, but the tailgating scene (which is kinda unique for college hockey) should more than make up for it. And it should have a much larger BC turnout than any of the other proposed venues for this go-round (other than Boston itself)--there's a large local alumni base and you're 6 hours from Boston, 2 from NY, 3 from DC.

What I'm not looking forward to if BC makes it is swarms of out-of-town friends showing up and dragging me to the Liberty Bell for the 87th time when I'd rather just throw a few back at Paddy's and enjoy Chemical Toilet's performance
