This move had to be made. Mad 'Bama for Brodeur, but he is a shadow of his former self.

Home ice for Luongo. Plus, he's the steadier hand lately.

If Brodeur had played solidly but gotten beat by some good shots, it'd be an over-reaction. But he played too aggressive and was out of position with a crowd in front of the net for three of our four goals Sunday.

There was an interesting article on ESPN (ESPN does have some hockey content but you have to search far and wide) about if Luongo is the right choice. He looked to Fleury and the basis of the argument is that Luongo, despite him being very good in the regular season really has never won anything.

I agree that Luongo is the right move (and the more popular one) but they are going to need to beat Germany (shouldn't be a huge problem but if Germany scores a quick goal that place is going to be as tense as hell), Russia (I honestly believe Russia is a better team), and then probably Sweden in 3 out of 4 nights.

He played the puck too much for his own good. As much as the trapezoid really only affects him and Turco, it may be a bit of a good thing for him since it reins him in somewhat and precents him from being all over the ice. That being said, he is a wizard with the puck and can single-handedly deter PPs.

Luongo has had some success in the World Championships, hasn't he?

I agree that he got hurt trying to play the puck too much. But this move has panic written all over it.

It's more of just having a luxury. It's not like they're benching him for Raycroft or some bum. Both are top goalies in the league. Luonguo now gets his chance to actually perform on the big stage. Last big game he was in was the 6 or 7 goal stinker against Chicago in the playoffs.
