Team USA -Men

Solid win today 3-1 over Switzerland. Not good not bad bu whenever you have a group that hasn't played much at all together against a team that plays all the time together and a NHL goalie it isn't going to be easy. Gave up too many odd man rushes but Miller came up when he was called on.

0-0 Canada Norway after 1.

Canada looks really, really good. I also really want to see Russia play, just to see what they do on the Power Play. To think they can potentially roll a line of Ovechkin-Malkin-Semin with Kovy-Gonchar manning the point while still having guys like Markov and Datsyuk to come out for the second minute has to be terrifying for opposing PKs.

3-0 Russia over Latvia over 1. Russia is extremely talented offensively (no shit) and Ovechkin has by far the hardest wrister, and is the best player, in the world. One negative is that their forwards showed absolutely zero interest in playing D. When Latvia gained the zone and was tied up along the boards you'd see one or two forwards fly up the ice.

International officials are always ummm interesting.

I'm excited about the Czechs playing the Slovaks today. It should be much more competitive than the games yesterday.

Seemed the Swiss came out and started the physical play last night and the US responded quite well, but it will be interesting to see if the US continues to play this way.

The lack of an olympic ice surface could save them going forward as they have quite a few "power forward" players compared to the Parise/Kane types that usually thrive on the big sheet.

Canada was a steamroller yesterday. As good as Russia and Sweden are, the pressure has to be the biggest obstacle for them. I really can't fathom how intense it will be for the players.

btw, NBC go DIAF. Not only did you bump CAN vs USA on Sunday night for more damn figure skating, but you pushed it to MSNBC...which is offered in HD to like 20% of the country.

Heaven forbid you have to drop some Mad Money or Monk reruns on CNBC-HD/USA-HD.

Finland with a dominating 5-1 win over Belarus. Shots were something like 45-8.

He's the GM of the Slovak team. It is fun to see the random guys in the KHL back again.

6-1 win :flagus :flagus :flagus

Wasn't able to watch until late in the 3rd. Rafalski scored two late.

3-5:30 pm ET -- U.S. vs. Norway men, USA
5:30-8 pm ET -- U.S. vs. Finland women, MSNBC
8-10 pm ET -- Canada vs. Switzerland men, CNBC
10 pm-12:30 am ET -- Russia vs. China women, CNBC
12:30-2:30 am ET (FRI) -- Russia vs. Slovakia men, CNBC

Once again the best game of the night is at midnight ET. I believe last night the game started at 12 opposed to 12:30. Will be on the look out for that.

Be aware that games usually start 30 minutes earlier than listed on NHL's website.

Dear NBC:
In international hockey there is less time between whistles. Please don't cut to commercials between every whistle because if you do, you miss action. For example a Swiss goal to make the game 2-1.
Sincerely,
GFY

Swiss dominated play for the last ~10 minutes of 2nd and score w/ 10 seconds to go to go into 3rd tied at 2. You could hear a pindrop in there, it's excellent.

Stumbled upon a Canada bar around the corner from my apt...man what a crazy end. Canada definitely tightened up after the Swiss tied it.
Sid with the penalty shot goal..

If Canada lost that they would have been playing for a berth in the next round v the us on Sunday. Still the US can certainly clinch the top seed with a win sunday.

Thank you NBC for putting it on fucking msnbc. Fucking assholes.

As I said before this is such a disgrace.

I can understand how NATIONALLY figure skating may be a bigger draw (nags), but I can't understand how it isn't on USA. It just makes no sense.

FYI every team advances no matter what the round robin statistics...

After every team plays 3 games...the rank all the teams 1-12, and top 4 get byes. Then 5 plays 12, 6 plays 11, etc...to determine who plays the top 4 teams in the quarter finals.
