Beanpot 2010

Postby claver2010 on Sat Jan 30, 2010 12:31 pm

Ok now it's time to start the BU Invitational. Only 1 team (BC) is in position to make the tournament as of now. In the PWR BC: 13, NU: 24, BU: 29, Harvard: 49.

In the 5:00 game BC faces Harvard. BC won at Harvard earlier this year 3-2 should have been more but then BC played one of their crappiest periods in the 3rd all year. BC has been a team of streaks and hopefully they can get one going now. Harvard is 3-1-1 in their last 5 but they are not a good team. They are lead by freshman primadonna Louis LeBlanc (leads the team with 9 goals and is a point per game player) who was the pick (or two) above Kreider to the Canadiens in this draft. BC did a great job being physical and yapping at him in the first game and he clearly wasn't himself (there was a pretty big scuffle at the end of the game after he fired a shot at Milner way after the end of the game. Of course Harvard always has several Biegas. BC should win the game -I might look for Milner to start this game we have a huge game against UMass a week from yesterday and Milner fared well against them earlier (I hope Muse takes the reigns as he is heating up but we'll see). The Atkinson-JWhit-Gibbons line is really heating up as they are 1-2-3 in points. BC did some altering to their 1st unit PP yesterday placing their 5 best offensive players on the ice at the same time: Gibbons & Atkinson on the wings, Smith parked in front of the net, and either Whitney at the points. It worked well as that unit got two PPG last night.
Injury Wise: Kreider was scratched with a hip pointer and apparently hasn't skated all week -there is a possibility he will play on Monday. Cross has been skating this week, at earliest he will be ready for the 2nd round of the Beanpot. Wey is still several weeks away.

In the 8:00 game the mental midgets face off. They have played 1 game thus far this year a 1-0 win for NU @ Matthews. BU is really heating up 5-2-0 in their last 7 and we all know how they have been in the Beanpot. NU isn't playing poorly either as they are 5-3-0 in the new year. The battle of the fanbases as always will be hilarious.

+1. This is one of the best sports days of the year at BC. Head downtown early afternoon and get two games of hockey at the garden without thinking about work for a second. Plus, the doubleheader includes the two hour fight of the fight NU/BU students. I can't wait.

Agreed, this is always one of the best days over six hours of college hockey.

The key will be an early lead, of course we can come back but we are the better team and the longer you let a worse team stick around....

Also the more you let them hang around the more fanboys from BU show up (along w/ NU fans) who are much, much louder than we are and will give the nerds energy to pull off the upset.

Word on USCHO/TOS is that Kreider will be back tonight, Cross is coming along much better than expected and might be back Friday, & Wey is still several weeks away...

Also York was on the SportsHub, Muse will be in net (which is the way I hope we are trending towards) but we also need Muse in net on Friday for our huge matchup against ZooMass.

Good to hear...I was a bit concerned that JY would not take the Beanpot too serious. While I am of the mindframe that getting HE points is far more important than trying to halve the # of Pots that BU has, it's always been frustrating to watch the team treat is as a meaningless exhibition game. Just because the Fridays are technically more important doesn't mean a full effort can't be given on Mondays.

The only concern I have about Muse starting tonight is maybe Milner will start Friday -even though he has already won @ UMass we are going to be in a fight with them for the 2 as it looks BU might end up around the 6th I want to avoid them at all costs.

I haven't seen the Men From Harvard this season. I know they got off to a rough start but it sounds like Teddy Donuts has them turning things around lately.

As the resident BU alum, I sincerely hope you guys hold up your half of the bargain tonight. The Beanpot is stupid when it doesn't have a BU/BC final.

Having said that, BU better be ready to play. They've turned a corner but will face a NU team that hasn't forgotten the ass-kicking they took in last year's finals.

A wonderful day in Boston.

Anyone see the awesome Northeastern fan in full goalie gear sitting behind the BC band?

EDIT - Also, how did the BC band get there? Did Gene make them have a bake sale to raise funds for their T passes?

Northeastern's fall from grace in a year has been incredible. They have absolutely zero offense. BU didn't impress me at all tonight, but I'm sure Jack will have his boys ready a week from now.

It does look like NU has found a solid replacement for Thiessen, which makes their "fall from grace" all the more surprising. He was really sharp tonight.

BU is not an easy team for us to play against, because their defensemen are so big and skilled. To beat them as we did in our first game against them, we'll have to skate like the dickens and continually draw penalties, like we did tonight.

One of the reasons I hate BU is because Jack Parker is a tyrant.
