Maine @ BC 1/15/10

Postby claver2010 on Wed Jan 13, 2010 1:10 pm

Huge game in the HE standings (we are 1 point ahead of them) & PWR (we are #13 & they are #14). BC had a very solid win last night dominating the play for 45+ minutes, still looking for a 60 minute performance, beating PC 4-1. York for the first time all year really shuffled the lines. 1) Gibbons, Atkinson, J Whitney, 2) Hayes, Smith, Kreider, 3) Mullane, Carey, S Whitney, 4) Almeida, Price, Lombardi (the only line he didn't touch). Maine, like BC, has played several games recently tying Princeton, beating Colorado College, and Merrimack last week. They are led by sophomore Swedish import Gustav Nyquist 13-18-31 -who is 2nd in points per game and 3rd in goals. Their goalie is Scott Darling who is 11-3-2 has a 2.62 GAA and .910 save percentage (4th & 6th in HE respectively). Maine always travels well so should be a good crowd on Friday night. Here's the most recent post from Pinhead Nation to get you ready for Friday:

TeamOps Press Release
Jan 13, 2010

To: Conte Forum Patrons

- Reminder. Firearms are prohibited from campus entirely. If you have an old pickup truck with shotguns in your shotgun racks, you'll have to park them in Cleveland Circle.

- The use of chewing tobacco is not allowed inside Conte Forum. Side doors on the Beacon Street side will be open in intermission to allow you to use these tobacco products. Spitoons emblazoned with the Black Bear logo will be provided for your use free of charge.

- Reminder. As usual, you will not be allowed to bring in any food or drink into Conte as it would cut into BC's concessions profits. This includes fresh roadkill from the trip to Conte (concessions will not let you use their oven so don't try to sneak that dead squirrel or racoon in) and of course moonshine.

- If you think Maine didn't cheat in 1993 or haven't brushed your teeth since Shawn Walsh last coached, you will be denied entry at the gates.

- The word "hillbilly" is considered a slur and will not be tolerated. "Cheaters", however, is totally acceptable. While they may both be true, it doesn't make the first one ok.

- If you have unused tickets, please send them to the BC ticket office where they'll be donated. You can not bring in a "deer I just shot" to sit in the seat next to you just so you have someone to watch the game with.

- Maine fans will not be allowed to flush the toilets more than twice in one visit and will have a 2 minute time allowance at the sinks. While we fully condone proper hygiene, "taking a bath" in the Conte bathroom sinks is not the place to do it. We also need to allow other Maine fans that have a fascination with indoor plumbing to indulge in this pleasure as well as the other patrons that are used to living in a highly developed society that would like to get in and get out.

- Electrical outlets in the concourse will be turned off for this event. While we recognize that some folks would like to use them to charge a phone or laptop, we can not risk the liability of a Maine fan sticking their finger into the socket asking "what is this thing!?".

- Reminder. We take everyone's safety very seriously. Please be careful when taking your seats and walking through the concourse and watch for pucks when seated. We do not want to see anyone have their teeth (or tooth in many cases on Friday) damaged. We are highly sensitive to the large group of individuals that fear the dentist that will be in attendance at Conte on Friday night.

- The BC trophy case will also be guarded with more security to keep Maine fans from destroying BC property since the installation of a new sign provided by Pinhead Nation states "This is how you win a trophy without cheating!"

- If you see anyone resembling former Maine Black Bear hockey player Keith Johnson, notify the nearest security personnel immediately as we will be airing a video warning any parents of 14 year old girls of his presence upon confirmation of his attendance on the jumbotron. We ask that you do not sneak up on him and say "This is Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC" or yell out "Hey hovhoc1269" as that might scare him away and we'd like to check out the Amber Alerts list against anyone he may have in his company.

We hope you understand the changes in policies for this one night and we look forward to seeing you at Conte for the rest of the season with less restrictive policies once we get more normal visitors coming to watch their hockey team play BC.

Sincerely,

TeamOps

According to Pinhead#2, Darling is out for the game and a few weeks more with a leg injury and Wilson will be starting tomorrow.

Wilson is a SR is 0-2-0, 3.93 GAA, .833 Save %.

We faced Wilson twice last year:
1) after he replaced Darling for the 3rd, he allowed 1 goals on 8 shots.
2) the following night where we won 4-1, he allowed 4 goals on 26 shots.

Hilarious that some people from NE consider Maine to be a hick state, they've clearly never been south of Connecticut.

There are places in Maine and Upstate NY that make West Virginia look like the center of enlightenment.

This is actually true the more I think about it. I spent some time this summer working in Newburgh/Poughkeepsie (not even Upstate NY) and I saw some questionable stuff. Guess that's what I get for taking a job with travel involved.

Be careful what you say about PoTown, if you ever need to go back. Even though it's true.

That JWhit, Atkinson, Gibbons line is nasty, great chemistry for only being the 2nd game together. Solid performance all around against a good team. Down 1 point to UNH. PC beating BU 3-1with 10 minutes to go.

That was fun to watch. Three periods of good solid hockey. Maine has much better D than Providence so we didn't have as many shots on goal, but we got enough to run up the score and have them pull the starting goalie.

This team is looking good again after 3 bad games in a row.

Not all good news out of last night -Tommy Cross hurt his knee again (same knee, different injury) and is out for a month. That leaves us with only 4 dmen: Dumoulin, Sneep, Samuelson, and Shea. We have been dressing Lyles who likes to pinch a lot and is a physical presence despite his size but this means we will have to dress Patch Alber (I don't see Jerry going 5 Dmen or moving a Whitney back to D especially with the way the JWhit, Atkinson, Gibbons line is working). This also means we are one D injury away from disaster. The D has been the surprise of the year thus far all being very, very solid and will need to come together as a unit for a tough HE run.

This, this is what is called content and a great post for BC GUYS!

Thanks.

I would also dress Lyles and you can go with 4 defensemen. Just use Lyles and Alber when we have a 3 goal lead or our best checking line out there.

Adam is still on my list for screwing up the NCAA bid last year, make it happen Claver--take over and tell Adam i want to speak with him.

I've been a big fan of Lyles since I sat next to him at an away game at Providence last year and had a chance to talk with him. He's got his head screwed on straight and is a BC guy. Glad to see him getting solid ice time this year.
