It's a bit foolish to build around highly drafted guys who will likely be there for a max of 3 years. Using 2015 as a random draft, of the 5 college players drafted in the first round, none stayed longer than two years, which includes Hanifan and Colin White. Most high picks will only stay a max of three years. So you either go the route of more "diamonds in the rough" or adapt to the new reality and plan for it.

This is a really interesting development. Obviously, being an assistant in the NHL is a big promotion. With that said, why now? From what I am told, Brown is financially well-off. He has numerous NHL connections and contacts and he could have been in the position years ago if he had wanted it. I would be willing to concede that it is entirely possible that because he was financially secure he was willing to collect a salary at the alma mater, learn the finer points of coaching from the greatest college coach of all time and put himself into the front runner position for the best job in college hockey while spending most of his time at home while his kids grew up and now that they are on their way to college he is happy to jump up to the NHL, coaching for a marquee franchise, with a childhood buddy, with a roster where key guys have played for him and like him a lot (not just Kreider, Hayes or Carey, he has apparently worked very well with Skjei on a WJ team as well). With that said, he put 14 years into BC. He was the Associate Head Coach and the heir apparent to Jerry’s job in three or four years. He is, from all accounts a skilled teacher of the game and a skilled tactician (an NHL guy I respect a lot called him a “power play guru”). He also has presided over an absolute recruiting debacle the last few years since Coach Cav’s departure, which has resulted in the worst couple of years of BC hockey since the mid-90s. I have to wonder if BC watched Quinn and O’Connell eat his lunch recruiting for the last couple of years and told him he’d never sit on the throne. I wonder if Buck comes home if it means that Cav, who has done a great job with UCONN is the heir apparent.

One thing is clear. In promoting O’Connell, BU will have excellent recruiting for the foreseeable future. O’Connell is a wizard in that regard—it remains to be seen if he can coach at all (my guess is he is Quinn Part Deux, which is not a compliment). BC is going to need someone who not only knows how to recruit but also knows how to assemble the chess pieces on the board. Cav seems to have that.

And Denehy aint coming. Billy Guerin gave him the Wheeling job, so he is in the Pittsburg organization for now. With Brown reportedly moving on, it appears the heir will not be one of Lenny’s boys. Probably or the best—while everyone should love Lenny, the program under him was David Quinn like in the way it underachieved with oodles of talent and also allowed for low character guys (looking at you Steve Heinze).

What’s to keep Brown from coming back in 3-4 years?

Now that they’ve gotten over the mass departures, it appears that they’ve recovered on the recruiting front. Brown has to get some credit if the new players turn out well. Who else has been doing most of the recruiting?

Heinze seemed like a good guy, what’s up there? Something related to the happenings at MA’s?

everything angry dick hit was fair.

brown's actual move isn't surprising. it's a promotion, one to an original 6 franchise, and ability to work with a friend. as dick referenced for a while now the rangers have had a heavy american presence and brown has a lot of respect within usa hockey.

i think you're giving cav beyond the benefit of the doubt. the sketchy recruiting happened under his watch as well. he's heading into his 6th year at storrz, his 5th in HE and has never sniffed .500 in conference and is 0-8 in the HE tourney all the while HE has taken a step back nationally

Officer Admits to Unprovoked Assault on Lindsey Lohan's Cousin
A New Jersey police officer has admitted to a January assault at a Boston pizza shop that left a Boston College hockey player with serious injuries.

Indictments were returned in June charging Daniel Hunt, 27, of Barrington, New Jersey, with assault and battery and Ian Salerno, 29, of Philadelphia, with aggravated assault and battery in connection with the 2 a.m. assault at a Domino's Pizza shop on Boylston Street on Jan. 19.

The victim, 24-year-old Kevin Lohan, at the time a Chestnut Hill resident, was at Domino's with a separate group when the alleged assault occurred. He is a cousin of Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan and played for the BC men's hockey team.

His girlfriend told police that they were standing in line when a group of about six to eight people started pushing in line. Prosecutors said the group was in town for a bachelor party.

Hunt, an off-duty Haddon Heights, New Jersey, police officer, confronted and allegedly pushed the victim, starting a physical altercation. As members of both groups attempted to break up the fight, Salerno allegedly came up behind Lohan and punched him in the face, knocking him to the floor.

Hunt and Salerno then allegedly fled the scene.

Lohan was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he underwent surgery on his mouth, face and teeth. As a result of the blow, his jaw had to be wired shut for three weeks and permanent metal plates were implanted in his jaw and cheek.

Hunt had initially entered a not guilty plea over the summer, but pleaded guilty to assault and battery during an appearance Tuesday in Suffolk Superior Court.

Prosecutors asked a judge to enter a guilty finding and sentence Hunt to two years of probation in addition to paying $2,618.67 in restitution to cover costs incurred by Lohan as a result of the injuries he suffered in the attack.

However, the judge did not find Hunt guilty and instead continued the case without a finding for a probationary period of two years. Hunt must remain alcohol and drug free, have no contact with the victim and perform 100 hours of community service. If he fails to abide by these orders, the case against him could be reinstated.

Salerno is scheduled to go on trial on Feb. 11, 2019 in connection with the assault.

What an awful decision. I expect police officers to be held to a higher standard. I hope Lohan sues these two.
