Hockey east 1st & 2nd round

Thought this weekend had absolutely zero intrigue then last night happened

UMass probably the worst hockey east team in the last 5 (?) years beats ND in 5th OT, the longest college hockey game ever. The game took nearly 6 hours. They play again tonight.
NU, who BC is lined up to play against, loses to Merrimack who scores a SHG in OT

Just watched the highlights 1) i like that ND blew a 2 goal lead twice at home 2) not great attendance and 3) I cannot wait to hear how is this Hockey East's fault

Can't believe Mack advanced. Glad we don't have to face NU next weekend.

UVM / Maine in OT in game 3 on 262

Believe if UVM wins we play them, if Maine we play UNH

his shoving womens hockey down BCI's throat is what makes that website lose all credibility (well, one of the main reasons)

I accidentally left the Sox spring training game on last night while working around the house and saw the rink where they played the final - holy shit, like a high school.

I care more about women's hockey than BC Baseball. It's like .01 to 0 but still

serious question - what age level of men's hockey would beat our womens hockey team?

a varsity team like CM would destroy them right?

i think hs teams beat / played competitively against the olympic team

edit:
The most recent opponent on Team USA’s schedule was Dexter Southfield, which defeated the U.S. Olympians 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Here’s a recap of Team USA’s recent pre-Olympic exhibitions against New England schools:
•3-1 loss to the Salisbury School in Connecticut
•2-1 win over the Taft School in Connecticut
•5-2 win over Saint Sebastian in Needham

some injury updates thanks to the kid:

destry after taking the mccoshen bomb to the head is practicing
linell is practicing, hopefully this means doherty back to the blueline
silk is still out, apparently really struggling w the concussion issues...was playing well before he got hurt

wonder if jerry goes into f it mode and loads up the 2 lines by moving calnan with fitzgerald & cangelosi. calnan is really wasting away w sit & smith.

sounds like jerry is going to f it mode

calnan up with fitzgerald & cangelosi
doherty remaining at F (can't win them all)

york said despite linell practicing & probably dressing this weekend, still TBD on how much he'll play

Yeah I was wondering about that. Even if he ends up being on the roster instead of McMullen, at least there's the option to play 6 D.

Does this mean Sit Straight and Smith are our "shutdown" line?

and by 'shut down' you mean line that has minimal chance at scoring and consistently gets pinned in its own end? yes

i kid

Kind of....

I mean the line that Jerry sends out against the other team's best line despite actual results (see above)

Nice 4-2 W

First 25 minutes were excellent from there :shrug

Nice to see Jerry load up the 2 big lines, they controlled play for extended periods
Apparently Linell took shifts but got hit and didn't return, I don't recall every seeing him out there.
After letting in a softie Demko made some big saves .

frustrating loss

they carried play for much of the game just couldn't get the second past the goalie
it was like watching hte mid 90s devils at times, uvm had all 5 packed tightly in the neutral zone and zero interest in forechecking
there are just players that have zero shot at scoring (the sit line). sit had a wide open net late in the second, couldn't bury it

tonight's game is on nesn as well

think they're still ok with a loss, remained at 9 in the PWR

UVM is boring to watch.

the team has had problems w teams that just pack it in the last couple of years (UML, ND, UVM)

Image

doherty back to D

either linell is good enough to take a couple of shifts or jerry is really going to ride the 2 big lines till can't go anymore

The women's game might have drawn more fans than tonight's crowd. And we really need to have Anthem singers audition.

6 SOG from the bottom 6
Jerry went to 3 lines for pretty much the entire 3rd post the game (which was while the Gaudreau line was on the ice).
There's just no depth on this team, and all the skill is in the underclassmen. Look at the powerplay units (FR-SO-SO-SO-FR & SO-SO-SO-JR-JR).
Noah was dead, must've played 30+ every night. Another problem w only going 5 dmen.

I still think this team has a run in them as they're going to have the best goalie every night, just going to need to actually score. They'll probably need to do it out west as well.

Edit the officiating was on par with the anthem singing, yikes

Edit 2: the Sit line has a nice habit of consistently getting pinned in their own end. Once you notice it and are looking for it, it happens nearly every shift

I don't understand why that line gets so much ice time. While Spiro threw a blind pass back that helped lead to the only goal, at least that line has some hope of scoring.

The effort is there with this team, just not enough talent.

Benedetto games are almost always awful.

Based on their ugly play, I hop UVM loses badly.

Oh, and besides a small core, the :ugeek: suck. Might have been an even number of Vermont fans there.

Agreed the effort is there, which is why it's hard to get too bent out of shape. Kids play hard every night.

The :thehjs of the past 2 years rings true, you can't completely whiff on 2 classes of F and expect to do much damage (imagine if Gaudreau didn't fall into their laps). The fact that they've done what they have so far is pretty impressive and a credit to the talent in the underclassmen an having one of the best goalies around.

Yeah the nerds sucked and have sucked all year regardless of sport.

They played a great stretch of hockey in the middle of the year, so if matchups fall favorably for them, I don't think its out of the question they could make a run through the tourney. Beauty of a single-elimination format. I just don't put them on the favorites list.

Otherwise, you hope that the frosh class coming in delivers on the hype, the current sophs develop into more of a leadership/scoring role, and we don't lose Hannifan. I guess, based on the # of D coming in, York is planning on at least seeing Matheson leave. I hope Mcoshen stays and don't think Santini is going anywhere as the injury this year seemed to set him back a little.

matheson seems to me like he hasn't improved an ounce since he got here.

im gonna lose my mind if i see him go for another one timer on a powerplay that doesnt even make it to the next

this defense will be better without him next year (hopefully. i actually dont think hes leaving)
