BU & Maine

Postby claver2010 on Thu Jan 16, 2014 8:40 am

Huge weekend and finally back to 2 conf games per week

Great opportunity to truly bury BU on Friday. They aren't a good hockey team at all, 0-5-1 in their last 6 and the 6 have been (Merrimack x2 -11th place in HE, Bentley, Harvard -9th out of 12 in ECAC, Dartmouth 12 out of 12 in ECAC & Maine).

Maine on the other hand killed us at Orono 5-1 back in November and currently is in 4th.

Apparently Linell is finally being moved back to forward, as of yesterday Destry was the odd man out.

The reasons given for Doherty not playing that I heard from sources were either really weak or just lip service.

Based on his play alone, there was no reason Doherty should've been sitting. If it was an off the ice problem, I hadn't heard of it.

Anyways onto tonight.

BU is down to 16 healthy skaters and they're starting their back up goalie. Granted his numbers are similar to/better than the starter (2.72, .919) but BC needs to wear them down, hopefully the 4th line can have another game like Saturday @Brown.

Tonight is on NESN but is a 7:00 start? Here's a video preview with Johnny http://nesn.com/2014/01/boston-colleges ... son-video/

No word on who the goalie is for tonight, would assume Billet though.

No off ice problem - playing in his own zone problem apparently. Except: Linell.

Billet in net.

Pretty disappointing effort, slept walked for half the game and should've still blown them out if not for a mediocre game from Billet and BU getting what 6 power plays in a row?

Good to see Doherty out there

I think we got more goals from the 4th line tonight than we did all of last yr

I disagree, I think BU played with energy, we just wore them down and outclassed them. Maguire was great, the score would have been lopsided without his performance. Billet didn't help, he let in two softies. Nor the number of shittastic calls by the refs.

BU's special teams, esp. the PK, are atrocious.

Games are so much better when the students are there. The fanboys showed up, too - makes it more fun. The crowd was there, but late - traffic was horrendous again.

Anyone going to the town hall tonight?

That Maine goal to tie it 1-1 should never happen. BC is too careless and nonchalant in their end at times. They had chances to clear the puck out of their end and they get sloppy with the puck. Maine scores before the period ends. Take care of the puck in your end.

After the 1st period, BC blew the game apart with 3 goals in the 2nd and win going away to avenge Orono loss. Hayes has hat trick. Demko stops a 2 x 0 break.

Next HE games MC and PC. Win these games and BC starts pulling away in HE standings.

Much better last night from BC, if they played that way Friday night they might've put up double digits

Was hoping last night was the night Demko went out and won the job, not sure if he did that but he was certainly better than billet was Friday night. Stoning that 2 on 0 from the red line in was awesome.

BC is really starting to distance themselves from everyone else in conf. Now up 6 points on the teams in 2nd w only 8 games to play, they're hoping yo start eliminating teams soon w 7 weeks to play.

Now gaudreau (21-26-47), Hayes (16-26-42) and Arnold (8-25-33) are 1-3 in HE scoring

Great weekend!

Always nice to see Bates mingling with the crowd at a game and genuinely engaged in discussion.

It is amazing to see how far Hayes has come since his freshman year. Watching a guy with that size handle the puck so smoothly is impressive.

Can't believe there are only 3 games left at conte this year and and it is only January.

It will be hard to see how Demko doesn't seize the top job. Billet's never looked comfortable in the games I have watched. The top corners are wide open when he goes into the butterfly.

While I wish Johnny put a tad more effort into playing defense, the back hander from a scrum along the boards at the red line into the empty net on Friday was just filthy.

The improvements Kevin has made is unbelievable from where he was FR year, a real force w the puck

Regarding Johnny playing D completely agree, seen it several times this year. Last night he should've helped Kevin in defensive zone but instead takes off. Granted the way he puts the puck in the net, usually is a good idea but this team rarely has trouble scoring

Someone brought up, only 1 HE team has held us under 6 goals in conte this year, UMass with their 3rd string goalie. Of course.
