I definitely was not being sarcastic! Apologies to Nastia if hot gymnasts read this board.

How about the replacement?

No Calder for Gaudreau. While I'm not suprised that Ekblad won it (playing big minutes and playing them well as an 18-y/o Defenseman is pretty impressive), I am surprised that Johnny was edged out for 2nd by Stone.

Cross played his first game and Jimmy Hayes was the best player on the ice with 4 points.

10 Assists and averaging just a hair over a PPG. He;s been in on something like 60% of Calgary's goals.

Can't wait to see him on a real NHL team

#Caps say 6-3 LW Zach Sanford, 21, will be on their opening night roster. The 2013 second-round pick impressed in camp/preseason.

and johhny got paid, 6 years $40.5 MM

Kreider gets the GW goal against the Fish sticks (Hayes picks up an assist. The improbable play of the night, Mathewson tosses a Devil to the ground on the fore check, takes the puck away and makes a beautiful pass to the front of the crease which allows the Panthers to beat the Devils (and Schneider) in OT.

Can add Jimmy Hayes' corpse in the not doing well portion. 1 goal, 0 assists in his last 41 games, with a 34 game pointless streak thrown in there. And he generally just sucks at hockey and fighting.

Real shame Gilmour left. Doesn't seem to be doing a ton in the AHL and would be getting top 6 minutes here. Sanford, meanwhile, spent a ton of time riding the bench in the NHL or playing sub-10 minutes per game. Not sure whether that's better for development than top line minutes with BC or even more time with the AHL.

He literally beat all 5 Penguins during that rush. I was skeptical of him given his size but holy hell is he amazing.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Hayes tied his skates correctly last night and didn't get in NHL goal leader Brad Marchand's way too much.

38 goals so far. Probably just as amazing that he is 5th in the NHL in goals as it is that Johnny Gaudreau is 5th in the league in points.

It's always nice to think back to the days when our coaching staff was good and we had elite players. Now we're in land of misfit coaches; Weekend at Jerry's, Ayers, and McInnis (his kid should be in D3 and he plays almost every night).

kevin hayes got paid! 7 years $50 mm

surprised he reupped with the frog vigneault, my impression was they weren't on the best of terms and he stunted hayes' growth.

For reasons that only make sense to Philly, they think that overpaying for ex-Rangers is a strategy that will lead them back to the playoffs. I like Kevin Hayes. I like the work ethic he displayed with the Rangers after his disaster of a second season and the fact that he is a very good two-way center. With that said, that contract is ridiculous.

I am interested to see how things shake out on Broadway. My guess is Shero is still going to pick Hughes with the Rangers taking KK. Trouba seems like a deft pick up and the 8 year deal for a 25 year old is probably money well spent. Rumor has it Vescey is being shopped and there are rumors that Rangers are talking to the Sharks about sending Hank there but keeping half of Hank’s salary. Smith and Shatty might be looking at buyouts or being very expensive AHL players. And of course, the biggest question is what to do with Kreider. It was thought he’d be part of the Trouba transaction and the fact that he wasn’t is interesting. If Hayes got $50 million you have to think Kreider will get similar money after next year. The Rangers might be willing to overpay him a bit, despite numbers that really shouldn’t command that sort of money, because (a) they are now overstocked with soft Europeans and need some North American size and edge and (b) Kreider is highly respected in the locker room and would be a logical choice to wear the C at this point. We’ll see. I just hope Gorton doesn’t fuck this up.
