Alums Doing Well

Postby claver2010 on Tue Nov 19, 2013 7:59 am

Couldn't find a thread for this to go to but Brian Gibbons got called up by the Pens last night, scored a goal and had an assist in his first game.

He was leading their AHL team with 1.5 points per game

Just from watching the Bruins games the past week...

Cam Atkinson is on the first PP unit for blue jackets
Gerbe is playing fairly regularly for the hurricanes.

Kreider has been the best forward on the Rangers in about 2/3s of the games he has played. He is also playing with a Kesler-like mean streak. Has been dishing assists all over but goals have been harder to come by. Had a sweet finish on Thursday so hopefully he is finding his touch in that regard. His speed is ridiculous, especially coupled with that size. On NHL Tonight last night they said he is the fastest skater in the game.

Biggest beneficiary by far that Torts is gone.

Hopefully he never inspires a series of gifs like Kesler did with this move two years ago.

Haters gonna hate, but there isn't a GM in the league who wouldn't take Kesler in a heartbeat.

What has been so awesome about Kreider this year isn't just what he does with the puck, it is the pressure he puts on the opposition when he doesn't have the puck. Case in point, against the Preds, he didn't log and goal or assist, but as Michelleti pointed out in the post game, his speed forced the Preds D to make two very bad decisions that resulted in two goals. First, on McDonaugh's goal he closes on and steals the attempt to reverse the puck around the back of the net, gets the D to collapse on him while dishing to Zuccarelo, who then tees it up for a wide open Girardi in the slot. McDonaugh is able to go down low for the tip in because there are three Preds still tangled up with Kreider. Second goal he closes on the Preds D-man--who is skating furiously up the ice--like he isn't even moving, back checks and strips the puck away and pushes it to Stralmann who then tosses an easy pass to Stepan for a 2 on 1 in the other direction.

Torts really did such balls. I wasn't wild about Frenchy and still am not, but at least he is putting guys like Kreider, Stepan, Stralmann and Zuccarelo in positions to succeed.

Didn't see what happen but watched the last 5 minutes of game. But I assume Thornton was protecting his team mates but went over the line after Ericsson got hurt again, and Marchand got knee in the head by Neal ?? This is ugly and if they want this to stop they have to make players pay for dirty hits. The 1st time, on Ericsson, the other player only got 5-7 games ??

I see Sequin had another big game for the Stars.

I guess there is a fine line between a legal check and illegal check sometimes. But the only difference between hitting from behind along the boards and an open ice hit like that, is that one is legal while the other isn't. But in both, the player is vulnerable and helpless if you don't see it coming. If you want to cut down on the concussions and career ending hits, you have to enforce rules to protect players like in the NFL now with head shots or tackling with your helmet by launching yourself into another player.

After Marchand got knee to the head by Neal, that was the play that obviously sent Thornton out to protect his team mates. He broke his own code but emotions run high after plays like that. Pittsburgh has a history with Boston, Sammuelson and Neeley, Cooke and Savard, now Orpik on Ericsson which could possibly be career ending if he does not recover from this 2nd hit this year on him.

Thornton is a cheap shot artist. Let's just say he'd fit in with the Pens well.

I don't think.anyone would refer to Thornton as a renowned cheap shot artist, save for last night's actions. "Goon?" Yes. "Enforcer?" Yes. I'd call Marchand a cheap shot artist before him. Neal's a fucking scumbag and I hope for someone to explode one of his knees very soon. Also, fuck the Penguins and Lemieux along the way.

He's not even a goon as he actually plays an effective 4th line role, unlike a Scott or Orr. That was very out of character for him and a douche move which will probably get him 6 games as he's not a repeat offender. Agree on the Penguins sentiment, especially Neal.

Um, let's not overreact here when we know nothing about the severity of it. Bergeron gets concussed like every other week and he has come out fine.

Think he gets more than 6

As disgusting as Thorton's actions were, Neal's postgame presser was pretty bad too

Neal got 5, which was weak. No word on Thornton, but best guesses say a dozen, which is weak, but fair in comparison to Neal's suspension. No punishment for the Orpik hit on Ericsson or the Dupuis shot on Kelly.

Was glad to see this score update on my phone last night:

Goal by Chris Kreider assisted by Brian Boyle

I believe this was the tying goal in a game the Rangers would win in a shoot out.

Last night was a 2 hour advertisement for BC hockey, awesome to see.

Dumoulin looked good once he settled down. Also got time on Pittsburgh's #1 powerplay unit. He rarely got much time there at BC, maybe cause he was the ice for half the game but always thought Jerry underutilized him there.
