Unless they make another move, they're really going to struggle on the back end unless they acquire something else. A bunch of unproven guys, middle pair guys and one graybeard. Bryz might have to come up humAAANNNgas big next year to give them a legit chance at the Cup.

Timonen-Coburn-Grossmann are solid. Any would be a fine second pairing or the less good guy on a first pairing. Meszaros was at the same level before injury. Schenn is a complete wildcard. MAB and Gustaffson could eventually be better than a 6th guy but aren't there yet. Gervais and Lilja are not good enough to play but will have to.

We lack a shutdown first pairing guy. I expect us to offer a hundred 1st round picks for Yandle any day now.

Yeah I pretty much agree though I'm somewhat expecting Timmonen to fall off a cliff soon. Regardless, unless somebody makes a big leap this year, there aren't anybody you can point to as a legit shutdown guy, which is definitely going to be a problem in the Atlantic this year.

I assume you know this, but Yandle doesn't have an elite shutdown game.

FlyingElvisFaxxot, since you're up to date on CBA, etc any thoughts on the negotiations? I know these usually are a deadline type deals but the rhetoric coming out isn't good.

I'm certainly not encouraged and agree that it doesn't sound good but, again, it's so early in the game and the negotiations have really just begun. I imagine it's going to progress a lot more as they inch closer and closer to the September 15 deadline but I do share your sentiments. I really hope both sides aren't stupid enough to destroy the immense amount of goodwill they've gotten these past few years with another lockout but I don't trust the owners and I imagine the players are going to be a little hell-bent on getting some revenge for getting bent over during the last round. I really feel like the only news coming out is that there is no news.

Kreider is eligible to play in the AHL while the NHL is locked out without passing through waivers. Why I have no idea, just passing along info

They had a special period where they could pass all necessary players through waivers so they would be eligible to play in the AHL. Basically a collusion, gentleman's agreement between all the owners to not be dickheads. This only applies to guys that aren't on their ELCs. Since Kreider is still on his ELC he can go to and fro the AHL without being subject to waivers. It's also how a team like the Flyers is able to get under the cap before placing all their guys on LTIR. They basically just put a few young guys "down" in the AHL on a paper move right before the season starts, get under the cap when including the injured players' contracts and then "call up" the ELC guys pretty much immediately. The B's will probably do this with Seguin, Caron and Hamilton in order to get underneath the cap so they can put Savard on LTIR.

NHL offered 50/50 split today. There will now be a deal in the next 5-7 days. Won't be today, but a deal will get done now...and it will mean a full 82 game schedule. Both sides realizing they have to save face.

NHL announced the Isles are moving to Crooklyn. The Devils wouldn't likely move considering the Pru is still a fairly new arenas. Though they are quite bankrupt right now.

Yep. Didnt know the decision was made to move the Isles to Brooklyn in a few years when I posted the Devils idea.

Now the Islanders can join some other pro teams with names that make no sense for where they are located.

See LA Lakers, Utah Jazz, and maybe the LA Dodgers
