Thanks to some nerds on USCHO who have created programs...

BC cannot finish lower than 7th in the country (a 2 seed) and will likely clinch the #1 seed overall with a sweep of UMass

The #1 overall seed is huge since we would likely face the conf champ from the weakest conf, Atlantic Hockey, currently the top 3 in Atlantic Hockey are: Air Force, Niagra, the Cross ranked 29th, not ranked, not ranked in the PWR (you have to have an RPI of .500 or better to be ranked) opposed to some underachieving yet very talented power team (like Denver, NoDak, ND) like last year

We are essentially assured Worcester right now (barring not getting swept by UMass) thanks to our extremely difficult schedule (highest RPI by a ton) & performance against said teams.

I'll expound a little more.

The reason why we were shipped out west last year was the bullshit about hosts need to stay home regardless of seeds combined with their inability to have in conf games to start the tournament.

The 2 regionals in the east were the East & Northeast

Northeast in Manchester was hosted by UNH. And was the location we'd go to since we were the top team in the east, we'd go closest to home. But UNH was a 4 and there's no conf games to start if it can be avoided.

East was in BPT & Yale was the host. They were a 1 and had to stay home.

This year the hosts are:
Worcester: Holy Cross
BPT: Yale

Unless either of them win their conf tourney neither are making it and would do so as a 4. Since both are outside of HE the inter conf game wouldn't matter.

Long story short: I am looking at bars in glorious Worcester.

For #8 seed, UMass is a strong team and cannot be overlooked by any means. Unlike PC or MC, they can put the puck in the net. I know they're a weak road team but BC will be aware, especially since UMass beat them twice this season. Milner is playing well right now and BC cannot try to be cute with the puck. If a forward has a prime shot, take it and don't overpass. I believe Friday's game is a 7:30 PM start.

York's weekly press conf:

Opening Remarks:

“First, I’d like to congratulate all the coaches. We’ve been going six full months here
and we’ve finally gotten to the playoff for the Lamoriello Trophy. From BC’s
perspective, we’re really excited to win the [Joe] Bertagna Trophy. It’s just a regularseason
trophy that needs a name. I can’t think of anybody, after Lou Lamoriello that
started our league, that’s put this league in such a prime situation. We have an
outstanding league. So, around this area and my locker room, we call it the Bertagna
Trophy. He’s someone that we admire as a staff and as players. He’s responsible for
where we are as a group. We had a 2-4-1 record after Christmas. We were in a funk.
Tommy Cross is our leader. He really set an example. We’ve been on a pretty good tear
since then. We are led by our seniors, but, in particular, a junior goaltender in Parker
Milner who has played outstanding for us. As we approach a whole new season, it’s not
your typical 1-8 match-up as far as we’re concerned. UMass is one of the few teams that
took a season series from us. Deservedly so, they played extremely well in the three
games. The Minutemen have our attention and we’re preparing very well this week for
our match-up that starts on Friday. We’re excited to be on national TV [NBC Sports
Network]. Again, great credit to Joe and his staff for getting our league affiliated with
that media.”

On one or two things that have clicked to put the team on this roll:

“We can talk about a number of different things. They are good clubs in our league.
There is a fine line between winning and losing every night. We’ve cut down drastically
on turnovers. We’ve managed pucks better. We made smarter plays. We’re much better
on the defensive end. In 27 [league] games, we gave up 60 goals. Last year, we gave up
58 goals. The year before, 60 goals. We’ve been pretty solid defensively and I think we
got away from that a little bit during the middle part of our season. Attention to detail on
the defensive side has been a big plus for us.”

On Barry Almeida production as a senior, particularly on the power play:

“He’s had a remarkable senior season. He’s always been a good player for us. Now he’s
certainly a candidate for all-league honors. His play is considerably better offensively, as
witnessed on the power play. Over the years, we’ve had so many good power-play
players that Barry hasn’t gotten the chance to break in there on a regular basis. This was
his opportunity this year and he’s done an amazing job with it. He’s certainly among the
keys to our success this year.”

On Maine’s top line of Brian Flynn, Spencer Abbott and Joey Diamond:

“They all skate well. The difference in Flynn, Diamond and Abbott is that they really
understand the game well. Their hockey IQ is outstanding. When I watch them play –
the passes they make, the plays they make and the position they put themselves in – it is
fun to watch. Over the years, we’ve had a lot of great top lines that we’ve played against.
They certainly have to be mentioned when I think of top lines in Hockey East.”

On Massachusetts strengths this year versus in year’s past:

“They’ve broken in new goaltenders that have all played well on any given night. That is
a real strength of their club. I also think their skating – on a 1-through-20 level – is much
better. Their skating is probably the biggest difference over the last few years. They
skate very well as a club.

On Boston College’s goaltending:

“We were really in a hard situation early in the season and through the middle of the
season with stopping pucks. We had three goaltenders all get a chance to jump up. We
sensed at the time we had a lot of ‘B’ goaltenders. It’s hard to win championships
without an ‘A’ goaltender. It just doesn’t happen. We challenged our goaltenders.
Parker stepped up. His numbers are off the charts. He’s given up 1 goal in the last 4
games. I pull the goaltenders late because I’m not concerned about getting shutouts. So,
he would’ve had three shutouts in the last four games, but I put [Chris] Venti in with one
minute left one night and with three minutes left the other night. So, he’s basically had
shutouts in three out of his four games. He’s allowed only one goal in those four games.
His positional play, his confidence level and the numbers he has posted – save percentage
and win-loss – have all of us excited.”

Comparing this Boston College team to past Boston College championship teams:

“The biggest thing is our goals against is the exactly the same. Over the last three years,
we’ve given up (in 27 league games) 60 goals this year, 58 goals last year and 60 goals
the year before that. We share that same principle of good defensively play – led by John
Muse for a while and now Parker Milner. We skate well as a team. But to lead the
league in goals against three years in a row is very special.”

On playing on Kelley Rink ice surface vs. UMass’ Olympic-size surface:

“We really enjoy playing on big rinks because we skate well as a club. UMass is like us
this year, they also can skate well. It doesn’t really affect either one of our performances,
I think. Our rink is not Olympic size, but it is awfully large in the corners. We’re almost
a square rink. It’s a pretty good ice surface here at Conte.”

I'll be an arrogant BC fan. UMass then PC would be like a Big East double bye. I'd we can't take care of that business, we sure as shit aren't winning number five.
