The Last Weekend of Hockey East

Postby claver2010 on Sun Feb 28, 2010 11:13 pm

Hard to believe it's almost tourney time and HE is as crazy as ever -3 points separate home ice from staying home and taking out the golf clubs.

Here are the matchups for the final weekend:
Friday:
UVM @ UML
UMA @ Maine
BC @ UNH -NESN
Mack @ PC
NU @ BC

Saturday:
UVM @ UML
UMA @ Maine
UNH @ BC
PC @ Mack
BU @ NU

And the standings (team, followed by points as all teams have played 25 HE games, followed by who they hold the relevant tie-breakers over)
1) UNH 35
2) BC 32 (Maine -BC cannot fall below 2)
3) Maine 28 (UML, NU, UVM)
4) UML 25 (NU, MC)
5) BU 24 (Maine, UML, MC, UMA)
5) NU 24 (Maine, BU -for now, MC, UMA)
5) UVM 24 (BU, NU)
8) MC 23 (UVM)
9) UMA 22 (UML, UVM)
10) PC 13 -Eliminated

Just a complete log jam from 4-9 (even Maine at 3 can be caught by 3 teams this weekend).

Who does BC want to avoid?
BU: They are a rival who will be playing for their lives as they will be unable to make NCAAs without winning HEs. We are the better team but we will be facing a motivated team.
UML: In the last 2 years against them we are 1-4-1. They play a trap style that frustrates our speedy forwards (and is boring as hell to watch) and they have arguably the best goalie in HE.

It's not but you can probably watch from that channelsurfing link, I'll look for it this week.

Thanks. I can't believe they aren't showing both games. If BC wins the first then the second game is uber important.

Women’s ACC is on NESN @game time, what a shame you would think they would schedule a TBD game on the last day of the regular season

BC-BU would be interesting in a best of 3 and definite sellout, but I’d like to wait and see if they can get into the semis before we have to tackle them (not convinced they can win a first round series if they’re on the road) UML + UVM could be tricky and of late UML has been a real pain in the ass for us. Both of those teams could easily be that #6-8 team that could knock off a higher seed.

Who would you guys like to face in the first round and why ???

My pick would be NU, not only so we can see another student section battle of words, but I think we can easily out play NU, the only wildcard comes in the form of Rawlings. I think the home + home series proved that he’s a good goalie, but not invisible and get be beat on the road.

Thoughts for this weekend’s series:

BU-NU split
UVM@UML spilt
ME takes 2 from UMASS and UMASS becomes the odd man out
MC gets 3-4points against PC this weekend and they should wrap up 8th place

BC-UNH: My heart says we take two, but my head says not likely…..I’ll be eating my words if we pull it off on Friday night @UNH

Well with one night remaining in HE there still is a ton to be sorted out.

Here are the standings, all teams have played 26 out of 27 games. Points, followed by relevant tiebreakers.

1) UNH 36 -Locked
2) BC 33 -Locked
3) Maine 28 -UML
4) UML 27 -Mack
5) BU 26 -Maine, UML, Mack, UMass
6) Mack 25 -UMass, UVM
7) UMass 24 -UVM
7) NU 24 -Mack, UMA
7) UVM 24 -BU, NU
10) PC 13

So despite UVM having the tiebreaker over NU in the 3 way tie scenario NU makes it in over UVM since the tie breakers are:
1) Head to Head between the tied teams -the there teams are 3-3-0 against each other
2) # of wins in HE -UMass has 12, NU 11, UVM 9
3) Record against #1, #2, ....

Here are some notes:
1) UNH has won the RS HE championship and is the 1
2) BC is locked into the 2
3) Maine has not clinched home ice and can slip to the 5 if: UML & BU win tomorrow
4) Mack cannot get home ice (huge for them as they are 12-3-0 at home and 3-13-1 on the road)
5) BU can climb to the 3 with a win and Maine & UML loss
6) The 6-9 is a log jam
