Getting To Know ... Kyle Caudill
6-foot-11-inch center center looking forward to East Coast experience

Kyle Caudill is one of six scholarship players who will be joining the Eagles for the 2011-12 season.

May 2, 2011

Kyle Caudill will arrive in Chestnut Hill in late June. Until that time, the 6-foot-11-inch, 290-pound center from Brea, Calif., will be working on his game while keeping a close eye on his beloved Los Angeles Angels. He may also try to sneak in another music concert.

Describe your game, your style of play.
I'm basically just a really big guy. I'm not afraid to throw some people around inside. I'm pretty skilled for my size. I'm a pretty good passer for being a center too, I think.

What do you believe are your strengths and weaknesses?
My strengths are definitely my basketball IQ, being able to see the court like a guard in a big man's body. Definitely my strength and my size and my skill level inside are all strengths.

My biggest weakness is just overall athleticism right now, and I'm working hard to get my vertical and quickness and overall agility up to compete on the ACC level.

How familiar are you with your future BC classmates/teammates, especially those who are also from California? Have you played with or against any of them?
I've played with Ryan (Anderson) and Lonnie (Jackson) and against Ryan for a couple of years, my whole high school career. I've played with Lonnie for the last three summer seasons in a row so basically we know each other and what we're going to do inside and out. Lonnie is one of the best shooters I've ever played with. I've seen him hit 7-8 threes in a row in game situations before, and we really play off each other well, like in the pick-and-roll and pinch-post type stuff.

I actually work out with Ryan right now out at Long Beach Poly and so we're kind of just getting our groove together. When Ryan and I played together, we played really well. He's super versatile. He can shoot threes, he can go inside and bang a little bit.

Jordan (Daniels) actually played for the Pumps but he was on a different team than us so I don't know him as well.

What do you know about Boston College and the city of Boston?
I love that Boston College is as academic as it is. That was a huge selling point for me. The campus is beautiful and the people I met there were all amazing people. I can't wait to get started there.

I absolutely love the city of Boston. The only thing that's going to be tough is being in Red Sox country because I'm a huge Angels fan. We can never seem to get by them in the playoffs.

Are you looking forward to spending a few years on the East Coast?
I'm definitely a little nervous, that comes with the territory, but mostly excited. I'm a lifelong West Coast guy so it's going to be a different lifestyle for sure. But I'm also the adventurous type and will try new things at the drop of a hat so I'm really looking forward to that as well.

Did you get a chance to watch BC on TV this past year? What appealed to you about Coach Donahue's style of play?
I saw BC quite a bit on TV and then I recorded whatever I could. The offense, I think, is definitely perfectly suited for me. It lets me get out and showcase my passing and a little bit of my range too, as well as getting inside and banging and doing the nice little baby hook and opening things up for our shooters, like Lonnie, outside.

What attracted you to Boston College?
There was, of course, the basketball aspect of it, but I've loved the city of Boston for a while. I just never really got out there. I went once with my grandpa, but that was a while ago.

I love the academics of the school, the fact that it's one of the "new Ivy Leagues". When I went out there I was amazed by the look and the feel of the school. It's really a special place.

What other interests or hobbies do you have?
As you can probably guess, I'm a huge baseball fan. I originally thought I was going to be a pitcher in the majors before basketball took over.

I'm huge into music. I try to get to as many concerts around here as I can. Another thing I'm really looking forward to in the city of Boston is going to a Dropkick Murphy's concert.

Crazy Corporal Funishment thought of the day because I have a headache at work and don't feel like working:

Are we surreptitiously redshirting Caudill? He's been dressed for each of the last two games and even when Donahue and Perpiglia came in for garbage time, Caudill stayed on the bench. Considering how light we are on scholarship players, maybe Christian has decided 5 fouls from Carney this year and 5 fouls from Caudill next year are better than 10 fouls from both this year, after which they both leave?

Maybe Christian thinks he can get Caudill into shape and then he'll be a contributor? :shrug

The team website statistics don't list him as having played yet. ESPN says he played in that game but I have no memory of seeing him. :screamyeagle

did his gut protrude onto the court during live action? maybe that's where espn got their stats.

we're lucky the refs didn't call a technical for too many players on the court

Maybe the official scorer made a mistake?

If you look here
http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/bc/ ... _stats.pdf

and on page 6 (although not page 20) of here
http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/bc/ ... elease.pdf

...they list no minutes for Caudill. I don't remember him being in the game and that wasn't a blowout either so he wouldn't have come in for garbage time. It's a mystery.
