Ed Cooley to Providence?

Postby auggiebc on Tue Mar 15, 2011 4:47 pm

looks like this is all but a done deal, jut waiting for Fairfield to end the NIT.

I guess this is a no-brainer decision for Cooley. But damn, he's leaving a Fairfield team that will be LOADED next year.

Ed Cooley is a good hire for them. So would OShea or Coen. Essentially, PC is BC's bastard kid... guys we considered and passed on is EXACTLY who they should be looking at. In truth, I felt the same about their Keno hire (i.e. It was a decent hire for them).

Keno can recruit but he is also one of the worst in game coaches in the country, he is a perfect assistant.

I wouldn't mind for Keno to return to his Alma Mater as an assistant.

Interstingly, Rakim was not on the bench tonight for FFLD's NIT game against Col. State!

I heard that as well. What is amazing is that BC in no way publishes or releases anything making reference to the school as the "Golden" Eagles but certain people insist on referring to us as that. We need ATL to get the record straightened out. :ace

Hearing Pat Skerry might be the top choice.

I think they've cooled on Skerry. Its looking more and more like Cooley and O'Brien as top 2 choices. Also mentioned Sendek and Tom Moore from Quinnipiac.

I personally thing they'll offer Cooley, it makes too much sense not to.

JOB's record without Scoonie Penn is well under .500. He has also sued his last two employers. He's a terrible game manager and an overrated recruiter. It would be a huge mistake for Providence to hire him. I'd roll the dice with Cooley first.

I think Ryan Day is still the favorite.

Is Al Skinner still looking for a job? For somebody who was so highly thought of by the media, other coaches, etc. I would have expected him to show up somewhere by now. He would probably be a decent fit for UMass.

Cooley to PC a done deal

PC reaches agreement with Ed Cooley
By KEVIN McNAMARA
PROVIDENCE - Providence College has reached an agreement in principle to hire Fairfield coach Ed Cooley as its next basketball coach, according to people involved in the negotiations.
Cooley and his representatives met with PC officials on Monday when they apparently reached agreement on a deal, the terms of which are currently unavailable. Cooley was at Fairfield on Tuesday morning where he met with his school president and then later spoke with his team.
Cooley will be switching from a program on top of its conference to one trying to gain a foothold in the deepest league in the country. The Friars finished 15-17 this past season but just 4-14 for the second straight year in the ultra-competitive Big East. PC fired coach Keno Davis after just three seasons on the job.

So what does Sanders do now if Fairfield hires a coach who demands he put down the fork? I don't think he can transfer again...

Assuming the obvious hurdles of feelings removed, what if Sanders transferred back to BC? Would he have to sit out a year? Couldn't he play right away? I honestly have no idea, not tht it would happen, but its an interesting prospect. Anyone know if this ever happened before with any other athlete ping-ponging to another school and back to the original one?

TRE would walk to Fort Worth and 74 would ask to be homohumped by :tophat in order to get superaids before Rakim comes back.

What's wrong with Golden Eagles? Seems like a fine name. ;)

I remember often being referred as to as the BC Golden Eagles in the 80s when Al McGuire would do TV broadcasts. He no doubt was confused by the gold/yellow in our uniforms and probably thought back to his days at Marquette when he was leading those Eagles!

Good for Cooley. Glad to see him get the chance. I do feel bad for Rakim though. It seems to be the way the industry is going.
