Lunardi Final 3 Out are BC, UGA and Bama

Postby BCEagle74 on Sun Mar 13, 2011 10:43 am

If there is an upset with Dayton and Richmond, then Virginia Tech or St. Mary's might be gone.

USC, VT Clemson and St. Mary's are the Final 4 in.

USC has a way better resume and should be in way before any of the other 3.

Clemson beat VT.....so that leaves St. Mary's and VT ----- and VT should be out, for losing to BC twice and St. Mary's has a slightly better resume, but the firestorm of leaving out VT for the 3rd straight year after beating Duke???

WOW...

Hello to the annual Seth Greenberg /Susan Lucci crying show...or do you see rosary beads being thrown???

I think St. Mary's will be left out at 25-8 since leaving VT out will be the third year and the third rail of NCAA Selection Committee politics.

I am rooting for Dayton. The ACC sucked and barely deserves 4 bids let alone 5, sorry St. Mary's.

193-195 is some kinda record. 74 is very envious of Joe Lunardi.

Agreed. We're not getting in so I hope VTech gets screwed as well.

You caught me in mid-edit and brainstorming but I think VT will be in and St. Mary's will be the one screwed if Dayton wins.

Penn State is in according to Lunardi.

Factors in the Eagle demise...

1--That Clemson blowout really hurt even though they say we look at the whole season and who is hot and that performance was incredibly poor and on National TV everywhere but my cable. 03-11

2--UNC game buzzer beater missed by Reggie Jackson. You have to win games like this and the shot did not drop. 02-19

3--Losing to Miami twice and at home. Bad. 02-23.

Hey they deserve to go to the NIT and with 8 Seniors, NYC is still NYC.. go for it.

IMO, Clemson doesn't belong in that group...While I agree we're probably not getting in, beating out VT, ST Mary's or USC isn't ot of the question.

USC (RPI 66) has three losses to 200+ RPI teams plus 2 to 137 Oregon...other than a WTF over Texas in December they don't impress me....

Yup. Just on Sportscenter, every analyst came to my conclusion and thank God the site is time stamped!!

:laugh :laugh

Then again, your HGAW missed! Sadly Bama and GA should be in and VT and STM should be out.

Those guys are right and Lunardi is wrong.

St. Mary's and Penn St. both suck. We'd beat either team comfortably.

But we had to go and lose to clemson by 100 points. only themselves to blame.

Agreed...but IMo the weakness isn't confined to last 4 in, as you point out Penn State along with Illinois, Colorado, and Mich ST all have warts...

USC has two wins of note on the entire year... Not that we have many but a review of the entire body of work shows a team that has many bad losses and was 10-7 at one point. No way they should get in...

VPI: We beat em twice and they once again shffer from playing a pack of shit on the non conference

Alabama = dog shit. They were crushed by Providence and Seton Hall in non conference and lost six times out of conference

Penn St. nice run through meaningless tourney but a loss to Maine out of conference and overall shitbag record 19-15

St. Mary's. Why two teams from the fucking WCC ?

Again, BC isn't bringing a resume of accomplishment but road and neutral court wins over TX A&M, Cal, S. Carolina, MD, and VPI are more in quantity than any of those teams currently knocking us out

Last Four In
Saint Mary's
Virginia Tech

Clemson
USC

First Four Out
Alabama
Georgia

Boston College
UAB

My conclusion is these two should be out and the Alabama and Georgia in.

Mybe Joe L. has it wrong? I would switch these two or at least 1, and if Dayton wins... YIKES!

VT and st. Mary's do not belong. Bye Seth.

Bama has 11 wins over the RPI 200+ plus losses to Iowa and Providence...Georgia may have a case based on no bad losses (except to Alabama)but 8 wins over the RP! 200+ themselves...they do have a win over Colorado (RPI 72) who appears to be safely in based on 3 wins over a Schizophrenic K State...

TRUE, all 68.

Please stop. This was a bad loss, but BC was 7th of the last 7 --- and farther out than the teams discussed.

USC getting in really bothers me. 19-14 with one win over arizona getting a team in, in a shittastic Pac10 (maybe as bad or worse than ACC) really shouldn't get you in. Penn State sucks and will probably get in but then shit the bed. that Wisconsin game was ugly.

CBS/Palm latest update has us as FIRST TEAM OUT. For the sake of argument, lets say this is accurate. If so, then basically the committee has to decide between us and St. Mary's. And I think we can win that argument. So, for the time being, I'm gonna leave the door cracked open and hold out hope.

Last four in: Virginia Tech, VCU, Clemson, St. Mary's
First four out: Boston College, UAB, Colorado, Harvard

Va Tech to me is questionable. We have two wins and one huge one over them and all they have really done is beat Duke once. I don't know why they seem like such a lock to everyone.

I am 90% confident we are going to the NIT...It is frustrating and I think Donahue is doing a lot with this program. It is unfortunate that 20 wins will translate into the NIT despite an expanded NCAA field. The bracketologists are right that the ACC is down, but we had a solid OOC schedule. Clemson was beyond ugly, but I do not think it was so much lack of effort as much as fatigue. Our guys wanted to win, but they were tired which sucks and is a testament to the importance of conditioning and having a deeper roster. The sad thing is had we beaten Yale, we'd be in. It shows how important every single game is in college bball.

Palm's bracket looks more realistic to me...USC nowhere to be found, though and VCU with 11 200+ RPI Wins and losses to Northeastern and Georgia State...

As I said before, even though I think it's unlikely, watch out. It can happen - using the method of predicting for 64(5) teams can be used to predict 68 teams, but it's unlikely it'll be 100% correct.

It will be hard for the committee to overlook the fact that BC dickstomped VT in their place. May not matter, but just sayin

Here are some interesting numbers to ponder:

RPI:

GA-46
STM-48
CLM-55
BC-57
VT-60
USC-70
ALA-80

SOS:

BC-40
GA-43
USC-44
CLM-68
VT-88
STM-105
ALA-136

Away/Neutral Records:

STM-10-6
VT-10-8
GA-9-7
BC-8-8
USC-6-9
CLM-5-9
ALA-5-11

Wins Versus Top 50

USC-5
ALA-4
GA-3
VT-2
BC-1
STM-1
CLM-0

Wins Versus Top 100

CLM-10
VT-8
USC-8
BC-7
GA-7
ALA-5
STM-3

BC---with the strongest strength of schedule---is in the top 4 of each category (RPI, SOS, Road/Neutral Records, Wins Versus Top 100), except one (Top 50 Wins), where they are tied for 5th out of 7.

Hope the Committee places value in these categories---they always talk about strength of schedule---well, this certainly works on BC's behalf.

Judging from these numbers---the teams are so close---if strength of schedule rules the day then BC, Georgia, USC and Clemson are the 4 in.

you simply cannot justify VTech being in the field and BC not making it. Whether you think BC deserves a bid or not, you can't justify it if VTech gets in and BC is left out....BC finished higher in the conference standings and beat them head to head twice.

Exactly. BC>VT. Looking at BC compared to teams in any other year BC probably doesn't get in but this year with VT being the team holding them out it makes no sense.

"Top 50" wins is such an idiotic barometer. There are so many junk teams in the "Top 50" that this measurment is bogus.

BC's top 50 record looks pathetic, but dig deeper and you realize most of those "top 50" losses were on the road vs tournament teams.

I'd love to see Penn State or St. Marys or USC try to play our Non-Home schedule (Wisc, Cal, A&M, Duke, UNC, FSU, Clemson, VT, Miami).
